It seems the dogfight mag doesn't exist - or at least I haven't been able to access it for quite awhile, although I joined/registered when it first went "live".

Just wondering iffen it could come back as a portal under, say, Misc? Would be a good place for close-but-not-quite-Hokey-stuff. Was a lot of interesting entries on DFM. Maybe for a trial-run like Antiquated? & before you ask - no, I don't have any idea of the amount of work required, but I can tell I, & most likely others, would appreciate it.

    TIA.

Dogfight was never meant to be a place for left over HAMB stuff.

It was for performance vehicles, of any era.

Giving it its own distinctive direction and iden***y.

But there was a constant battle against billet laden HAMB rejects, etc.

Which may have played a part in its demise ( as well as its unfortunate name...)

Yeah, what were we thinking with that name? It just didn't translate well...

Thanks metalshapes, I get/got that, which was one reason I liked it. No rr stuff either. So, might it - under a different name - be worth a trail-balloon to add it as a subsection under misc? Like an "extended-time-frame & parallel concept" hamb? With no-billet rules in place? I did like a lot of the postings there, & it'd be a place for decent stuff not allowed here. If not, I understand. Thanks for any consideration. :) .

I liked it too, and we are missing out on a lot of cool content, now that it is gone.

But between the OT cars I mentioned earlier, and the blind outrage of people that got their HAMB threads moved to it and felt they got demoted somehow ( some stuff didnt fit well here, while a place like Dogfight was tailor made for it ), I'm completely burned out on it.

20/20 hindsight, there were plenty of reasons for it to fail, and not enough to make it work.

So I'd join as a User if it would start in some form again ( not very likely ), but other than that I wouldnt get involved...

I just enjoy my time in the garage, building Dogfight type stuff.

    One more thought...

It seems to me that if this was to happen at all, doing it as a sub forum on the HAMB would be exactly the wrong thing to do.

Because the separation between the 2 wasn't clear enough the 1st time around.

More than likely, it would just degrade into a OT HAMB forum under a different name...

Thanks metalshapes. It's why I'm not a forum creator. 1st I don't have the knowledge, 2nd I would've guessed a sub-forum is the only way it've worked to start interest & keep folks from getting P.O.d 'cause their thread only go moved to a sub-forum, not a whole 'nuther place, sorta like exile. & if enough interest, then start it's own forum. Appreciate the time n effort explaining. Was just wondering, curious, & I'll drop it.
    :) .
    Peace.

That name was a big reason it failed. When I think of a dog fight, it's either with war planes....or illegal fights with dogs. The former is ok, but somewhat limited, the latter pisses me off every time I hear of it going on.

The idea of an extended time frame and limits on content is something that I have floated before. A cutoff around late 70's to mid 80's is what I envisioned, when a lot of us younger guys were growing up and becoming aware of cars. I've looked and haven't found anywhere that fits that mold. I'm not capable of doing it, so I just wait until someone does.

    Thanks for the questions, Marcus.

Its kinda nice to know its still on peoples minds.

Seems to me, given whats going on on TV right now ( ultimate street car challenge, and the stuff Freiburger & crew are doing),
+ Gr***roots type racing, Solo2, Hillclimbs, Trackday, Time attack, Drag, Salt, Oval, Dirt, etc, and all the streetcars inspired by those types of racing,
there could be enough interest for a forum like that.

But without me as a Mod.

To add 1 more to the list of reasons for the Dogfight to fail, is that I am not really a people person...
    I'm sure I've made mistakes...

    Edit.

Hoping that somebody else will step up to do all the work, without being willing to help is kind of a *********** way to be too.
So take what I said about a forum like that being viable with a pinch of salt...

I would like to talk to someone about this a bit more.. like what exactly it was and what the going trend is. As I understand it it is all the "cool" but not traditional stuff that is outside of the pre-63 Era traditional rods/customs.. I guess like what all it takes to be a moderator or what the end game is. I've never done it, recently retired and I'm always not posting some of the goofy stuff I like to do from time to time as it isn't traditional stuff.

I've been blade running a line coined by someone else (Troy Ladd) respecting tradition without being bound to it. If i am reading your conversation correctly it is kinda what you guys are getting at for this.
