I am missing some trim pieces for the hearse and bought some aluminum flat bar pieces. I need them fabricated with the same design as the original. Can anyone here do this or know someone who can. I am not asking for this to be done for free. No shops around here will touch trying to shave aluminum.
    Thanks,
    Mike

  2. So all you need is to thin down a piece of flat bar aluminum?

How thick is it and how thick does it need to be?

Any chance that cutting the shapes you need out of sheet aluminum of the proper thickness would work?

    Hey Mike,

Snowballs chance ya could toss up a picture of the trim pieces you're
tryin to fab up? Who's the builder on the funeral coach, Superior,
    National, Comet, S&S?
If ya bought hardware store aluminum stock, it's probably anodized,
thats not the material to start with, as you'll be having the pieces
anodized after they are fitted and filed to fit.

Here's the piece I have. It's 1/2 wide. Made by Cotner Bevington.

    Hey Mike,

Those pieces look to be extruded aluminum, and not milled from solid
stock. Are they casket glides for the floor of the coach?
Before you have them made, have ya checked with any professional
car wreckers? Cotner/Bevington did Chevrolet and Pontiacs as well
as Oldsmobiles, perhaps you'll find them used in other coaches?
Also, Cotner was sold to Miller and may have used these trim pieces
    as well.

Actually, Cotner was sold to the Wayne Corp who now makes ambulances and school buses. The trim is for where the side panels meets the headliner to cover up the staples. As far as finding any parts donors, it's totally impossible around here to find anything under 1985 at a wrecking yard.

check the Tiernay (sp?) metals catalog. They have about a billion different aluminum extrusions available. You may be able to find one that's close to what you need.

  8. It's hard to tell from your photo, but is that a '62 Olds Hearse?

Not sure if he would be interested but Suhrsc has experience in hand forming aluminum pieces as well as machining parts out of billet blocks... PM him to see if he would make a go for ya.
