Too bad you don't need a grill or hood. lol great to see a family project. Another issue of many that we all face as we get older. Kids have to have a phone shoved up their nose.

  2. Thanks, and my eyes had enough of that small nonsense too.

  3. Thanks, progress I didn't do this weekend. Gotta ramp it up and that engine is calling out to me.

  4. Ha, well I do need a grill, not because I need a good one but, because I have a good one. I want to do a grill with Econoline headlight buckets so I can exercise my custom bug.

My guys are pretty good, although they will grab a phone - me too sometimes, they are both certifiable car guys but, also mountain bikers and guitar players. One guy plays Bass and the other guy played drums until they both switched to guitar. Guitar is the go to for downtime around our house with 3 of us grabbing for one when available.

  5. So while on holidays this past week I spent some time with the ford six world. It turns out I likely have a 240ci engine. Researching Schneider Cams for what bumpstick to get. Plan is to do some port and polish work on the head and sleeve the intake and exhaust valves when they get upsized just in case they are not done as our show runs on propane. Hoping to get the engine to run hard after we get the rust repair done and bolted back together. Plans are already getting hatched for the Phase 2 and Phase 3 part of the build. Full sized photos are posted - bigger job than I thought.

  6. Ok, now this is time consuming. At least it's aluminum. Already starting to dread the port and polish I'm planning on the head.

  7. Not quite finished but, port grinding to match intake to runners took about 3 hours for all 6 ports. Low speed grinding as opposed to high speed because high speed clogs up the carbide cutter. I still need to step down to a roll to sand nice and smooth so the journey isn't over yet. Back to rust repair tomorrow - fun.

  8. Will it ever end! The most difficult panels to make are those that need to be replaced! 18 separate pieces on this side of the cab alone. Still need to do the cab sill support under this last patch but, I'm eying the calender. Moving on, I can add it when the cab goes on it's back.

  9. Have I mentioned how much I hate @#*#!! leaf spring bushings? Forgot I had one to go, which I need to have done to drop the truck, roll out and turn around for the last round of metal work on the passenger side. Drilled out my DJM drop brackets for 5/8" bolts. Tackled the one bushing with a vengeance which has turned into an all day'r. Like all hi-end shows, the use of firewood is vital.

Nothing can withstand 120 megahits with a 3lbs. mini sluggo - goodbye bushing. Back on all 4's again. Have to get new brake lines and make it all new and fresh this up coming week. Lots to move around on the driver's side to make room for steering linkage etc. It all looks like a haphazard unplanned mess.

  11. Started running new brake lines then realized after flaring an end that I am missing my tubing cutter. Grr. Out of this process I've come to realize parts supply stores don't stock anything I need, it's like you have to special order carrots at the grocery store. My oldest guy who is graduating just found out the Grad Parade is cancelled due to a decision the municipality has made based on kid's and cars, liability, uncontrolled intersections, etc. Talk about squeezing every drop of fun out of stuff. This is the same municipality I deal with all the time so I'm used to that kind of garbage decision making. Told him he can drive it to any Grad event he wants, we just need to put the puck in the net and get it done. 20220329_170805_resized.jpg 20220328_165042_resized.jpg

Maybe you do, maybe you don't. I thought mine was a 240 as well. Turns out, it just had a 240 head...which is more desirable anyway, since it has a slightly smaller chamber. Only way to know is measure the stoke. A piece of welding wire or coat hanger wire down the plug hole. If it moves close to 4" when you rotate the motor, then it's a 300.
Just use a long enough wire so it don't fall all the way into the plug hole!
    Coming along nicely!

Nice work on the floor pan WWW. And the dropped suspension too! Regarding the bushing removal...aint it a good feeling when you finally tackle a tough problem.

  14. Thanks for the tip Mike. Dropping a wire in there would put the finish on a perfect day. It's been hard resisting getting all over this engine but, committed to finishing the metal work, getting it started, insured and driving. I have been hoping for a 300 as mine has 1968 casting #'s. Likely I have 300 internals but, I'm ok with whatever we've got.

  15. Thanks @NashRodMan. That bushing had me all the way up to the end. Considering hanging it from the rearview mirror and changing my user name to William the Conqueror.

Yeah I hear that! It is very difficult resisting that urge to move to the "NextBigThing" with so many unglamorous tasks to be completed to make it driveable. I'm in the same boat. SOOOO much left to do....that does NOT need to be done to get it driveable. So, like yourself I have had to redirect my focus periodically toward that goal.
In fact a big goal has been reached. I have gotten my '65 insured, and the non-op taken off. I should have tags in a week or two. But, many small mundane things to do to actually make it a driver

Seat belts....dang it! I keep forgetting seat belts.

  17. Whoa, that's a milestone - good for you. I'm grateful there are 2 H.A.M.B. '65 F100 build threads going at the same time. I go back through your thread for reference and I'm reality checked. I review the avalanche of tasks as a result of the 'NextBigThing' then tell myself - back to rust repair buddy, or it will be sitting for another year. I got Clementine running and insured before blowing it apart so I should start bolting it back together this month (April 2022). That should mean we are driving in May, but... Big But, I have to make front shock mounts, rebuild front calipers, R&P steering and build the steering linkage and finish the motor mounts. All custom work because of my decision to go OT front end. In the end we should be low so it will be worth it. I left my seat belts in, I have enough goals to chase for the privilege of driving this thing. That bed you've got going on is way frigging cool. Alright enough BS'n - I gotta get back in the garage. Let's finish these friggin' things!

  20. So I figured driver's sides are always worse and that I would knock the corner of the cab off in a weekend. This side was way worse. Due to confined space and fiddly pieces I still couldn't quite get in there. Listening to my inner truck whisperer, I had difficulty but, ended up having to leave a little bit of bad in there due to access issues. Welds are questionable for the hole patching as there was still some rust and the tacks wouldn't grab. In the end it's solid and better. Made the last piece so I may end up pulling some shifts mid week now that we have some daylight at the end of the day and get it welded in.

  21. Getting near the end for the cab:confused:! There was a ton of Bondo in this corner. New passenger cab corner fitment was pretty bad. Inside corner profile was too shallow and the outside near the door was too deep which took most of the day to rework. Suspect I have an old BC Highways truck on my hands. While grinding I hit orange under paint but, over primer. Back in high school Highways trucks were orange - that orange. The repair is more visible than the other side but, this one was way more work. Think I got a bit too much heat into the part that will be hidden by the box. Nailed it on the outside visible part. Might be tempted to put a thin skim of mud on this one.

  22. This is the last patch I'm going to do for this round of the build. 4 pieces today from scratch. When I tuck into it again next winter I am likely going to pull the cab off. When this is complete we will start bolting the whole show back together.

Man this truck is really coming along. What a cool picture of your son using the grinder/cutting wheel on that old metal!! I presume you aren't gonna make your original deadline?? Doesn't matter...you and the younguns are having a great time together!!!

  26. Thanks @brEad. I was looking back through the thread dates the other day. We've all learned a lot. I'm going to have to build another car but, I need to be able to drive one while building another.

  28. Thanks @NashRodMan. We are having a good time together and thanks to all of you guys for encouraging us. Ya that deadline thing. The parade was cancelled because the municipality denied the permit. Stay tuned as we attempt to complete and go cruise in our own parade.

  29. And this is from last night. Have to use all available time to thrash this thing to get as close to our date as possible. It's like the playoffs, we are mathematically eliminated but, if we were meant to get this thing done we will. First time using Nicopp brake line. Super easy to bend and flare but, the less than straight lines oddly makes me cringe a bit. I know it's my professional life mindset interfering with, it's only brake line task. May have to do steel at the master because I'll look at it every time the hood is up.

Love the checkered flag on the diff. My 38 Plymouth had that on the firewall and driveshaft!
