Man I know exactly those days. The first sneak peek of summer. had a day like that a few weeks ago when I dipped out of work early and once home found everyone else had followed suit. Old cars cutting laps around the neighborhood burning that old winter storage gas up, getting things moving. sitting on the porch seeing familiar faces drop by one after another. it made me think that it was kinda funny that the 2020 version of being social was standing around in a driveway ********ting, when that’s what hot rod guys have been doing for decades. my family often goes over to a friends house on the weekend to use his swings that go ALL THE WAY to the trees! And there’s always another hot rodder stopping by and leaving after ten minutes the entire day. it’s great. -pictures from said driveway, because a post always needs photos right?
Norm would always answer the phone "Zoom,Zoom, Norm Rapp Racing Equipment" ! He was a great guy to deal with, and had lots of parts, and knew what he had. He was also, a highly skilled open wheel driver, as was his Father, before him. When I first called him up, looking for some Safety Racing, wide 5 mag wheels, he had 4 of, just what I was looking for. After he gave me the price, that was very reasonable, I offered to send him a check, so he could ship them. He said, "give me your address, and I will ship them, you can send me a check, when you know you want them" ! Quite a guy, that Norm.....
Who's days that start with an intended short trip don't turn into an all day half the night adventure? Hell I've had a few that lasted a couple days or better! Joe
I was curious what the building looks like today ... found nothing recent ... but here's the Google Street View from March 2019:
The last time I saw Norm was in '99, when I had my Roadster in the 50th GNRS, just down the street a piece.
Yep ... Right after I posted that 2019 Google Street View, I realized that you had posted a pic of your roadster in front of Norm Rapp's ... that what I get for reading your in your TJJ Blog's on my phone and not enlarging the thumbnails!
I bought these wide tires from Norm around 30 years ago, SF native myself, now in Walnut Creek, Ca. Rest in Peace Norm, Mick
