I am needing some help, I have a 1941 ford pick up that I am working on getting back on the road and during some upgrades I noticed the front crossmember was busted out. So I was lucky enough to pick up a NOS 1935-1940 ford crossmember from a local swap meet. When I got it home I noticed a difference in the motor mount area? Will this crossmember work? Do I need different water pumps? Thanks
Looks like the difference between a truck inline crossmember and a V8 crossmember. Everything should be in the same place but you might need thicker insulators or some spacers.
i think a 40 crossmember only has one hole in front of the spring shackle for the inner fender mount V shape I think because you have three, its 37 as the fender mount is two part
Thanks for clarifying year. So like mentioned do I need taller motor insulators? What vendor sales them as I thought they where all the same
The mounts are all the same height. 41 cross member was deeper for straight six engine. Your replacement cross member looks like it will work. If it doesn't it is not a 40 cross member.
It looks like where the motor mounts sit on the crossmember the "35-40" crossemember sits a couple inches lower than the one in the truck. My fear is if I swap the crossmember the engine will sit lower in the front? Maybe im looking at it wrong?
To save time and effort my recommendation is to cut a patch out of the replacement cross-member and use it to fix your existing cross-member. To me it doesn't look like those two cross-members are interchangeable.
something about a 1941 ford pickup drag link being different from 37 8 9 and 40 and the taper being at the top of the steering arm input
After looking at my 39 frame and my 40 frame something is amiss with your stuff. Your 41 crossmember should be 'deep dish' for the straight six motor. It doesn't appear to be correct. Your replacement cross member is a 39 and down not a 40. Hence the motor mount height problem.
