Projects HotRod Rebuild

Discussion in 'Traditional Hot Rods' started by ModelARon, Mar 18, 2021.

  1. Did you just blend the colour.. IE: hide the water mark with colour and cleared the rest?

If so GOTTA LOVE C/C.. I have always blended panels and NOT panel paint.. HATE to see different shade part when repairing..

EDIT: Also paint still fresh so panel painting shouldn't be a issue

There were a few water marks on the bottom of the door. Too much blending. It was easer to just reshoot the bottom below the body line and reclear.

  3. At least you had a hard line to goto.. Instead of prepping the whole door..

Keep up the great work !

Yes i did not want to repaint above the hard line. It is very time consuming to wet sand and buff the clear coat. This is my first paint job. There is a fine line applying enough clear to get it to flow out nicely and apply too much and get runs.

My wife asked me the other day if the car is finished. I said almost. Her reply was , that is what you have been saying for the past year. HAHA

"Your first paint job" your either a fast learner or you take great pictures. You've done a very nice job over all, really something to be proud of. Forget the trailer, drive it to Franks.

I am a fast learner. I watch lots of videos and learn from others who are good at what they do. I learned a lot of good painting tips from "The gun man". He is a car painter by trade and has been making videos for years.
The car is almost finished and yes it feels great. Tonight i finished installing the driver door and all the hardware for that door. The door fits like a glove. Still have more adjusting to finish on the car. IMG_6004.jpeg IMG_6006.jpeg

I have been fine tuning a few items to finish the car. When driving the car the idle was staying around 1500-2000. The throttle brackets are much smaller than what i see on the newer carbs.
I made a bracket for the spring return from stainless steel to get more leverage for the spring.
    I wet sanded and polished the part. IMG_6213.jpeg IMG_6215.jpeg IMG_6216.jpeg IMG_6249.jpeg IMG_6250.jpeg

I am planning to show the car on June 5th in Waldwick NJ . I had a portable display made that gives a quick history of the car. I also put a QR code on the display that goes to my build page on the HAMB. IMG_6254.jpeg Screenshot 2022-04-16 at 10.27.44 AM.jpeg

Do me a favor please and use a double spring on the throttle return please. I had one break on me at wot. Scared the **** out of me by the time I got it shutdown.
You did a fantastic job on a great car! Even the Ford engine is kinda growing on me, like a fungus. But it’s growing on me!

@SS327 looks like he’s got two on there. They are just at opposite ends compared to doubling up on one side

Good to have one on each carb. Then any slop/slack in the linkage isn't leaving one carb open a bit.
Really a nice job on the whole project.

Yes that is what i was thinking . Keep any slack from increasing the idle.
This is all trial and error for me . So any help is welcome.
    Thanks for the feedback

When i painted the running boards i sprayed some clear coat on the outside trim.
That did not work out so good, the trim did not take the clear and looked like ****.
I just replaced the trim with some stainless steel parts. I had to cut them to length so i
used a small piece of pine to hold the shape of the trim when i made the cut. IMG_6274.jpeg IMG_6272.jpeg IMG_6273.jpeg IMG_6276.jpeg

The trim came with some slight machine marks on them so i wet sanded the parts and a quick polish to make them shine. IMG_6275.jpeg

I see you are using what looks like regular rubber hose for your fuel lines. Might was to consider rubber hose designed to run on E85. Resistant to breakdown. The hose used today breaks down really fast causing fuel leaks. Hate to see a fire ruin that nice rod.

Don’t see any logo on that fuel block, is it an Elco?
