I am picking up a 35 Ford Pickup Cab with part of back cutout. See the picture. Its was filled in with wood! Not sure why it was done. I am make a patch panel but they is no way I can make the raised belt line that goes all the way across. Any suggestions?
Start looking for a donor 35-36 cab. That belt is high enough that even a rust pile is likely ok for what you need.
Odd. My guess is the owner was more comfortable with wood rather than metal. I bet the cab was laying on his back.
Is it my eyes, or has the rear glass opening been widened as well? I gotta look at a extra cab I have when I get up today.
You are definitely going to need a donor cab. That rear window opening is huge compared to stock opening. Not that hard to find, Ford made a lot of the 1935-1937 pickups and trucks.
I've seen a few old ford truck cabs that were rotted out because the box panel had been battered so badly that it contacted the back of the cab and over the years crap got stuck in there and rusted the panel away.
I agree you'll have to find a donor section, but I don't think it's going to be super hard to find. Even a donor with 2 feet rotted off of the bottom would still work, all you're really looking for is the beltline and maybe the window opening if what's in there isn't going to work. It'll still involve making a new back panel from the body line down, but at least you're not having to try to find the whole panel in one big piece. I'm sure there's some shit body with the doors missing and dash cut out and lots of rot that could donate that area. The trick is going to be finding it.
