Rebuilding the carb and never seen something like this vacume passage way? it doesn't lead anywhere on the carb, but the intake appears to have a hole (although it's really dirty) on the left side....do i worry about it? the carb gasket i got with the kit will leave the passage on the drivers side (right side in pic) with a small 'leak' or enough for some air to flow into the passage? what's it for? does it do anything? shall i just plug the hole? help
Just tap the intake for the appropriatte size pipe plug Jeff. Question for you though....if it's a Q-jet on the Q-jet intake, where did the gap come from? Does the carb cover the hole but the gasket leaves a gap? If it's not on by the weekend, I'll take a peak at it.
Just took a closer look at your pics. That doesn't look like a Q-Jet intake. Do the secondaries open when it's bolted to the intake?
plug them holes with anything you got, and you'll be set. i've used JBweld, wood dowels turned to a taper, etc.
there are no Qjets in those pictures....this is what a Qjet looks like and the original design for that heat crossover has a stainless steel "shim" between the metal core composite gasket and the carb. Same setup was used on 60s cadillacs and Chevys. If the car won't be driven much in the cold, then block the holes.
HAHAHA..... now i feel like a moron... I was thinking about my wagon, not my truck, which this is going on. Yes it is a 4-Jet. She will be a warm weather runner, guess pluggin the holes is the way to go... thanks, and sorry about my stupidity... fixed the title too....now i dont feel as stupid!
What the hell are you doing with a Nailhead?! What size/year is that puppy? I've got a garage full of 322 goodies destined for my '54 Special. -Brad
it's a 401 '66 vintage.... it's in my 31 p/u Got a spare waterpump pulley????? exhaust manifold gaskests????
No spare pullies, sorry. When I do mine, I'm going to have the machine shop surface the exhaust manifold surface on the head, and the surface on the manifold, and assemble them without gaskets; Engines don't come from the factory with exhaust manifold gaskets, and they don't ever seem to have a problem. I figure a fresh cut on the mating surfaces will give the same result. Then finish them with those snazzy frech locks on the maifold bolts, and it's good to go. -Brad
i will check in my garage for you tomorrow, i have a few spare parts in the trunk of my 58 super with a 364 nailhead.. check and see if pulleys are interchangeable? -Jason
