My spirit is with You Team 640 and it's closer than you think because my fingerprints may be on several of those MD80 series aircraft as I worked for years building wings for them...interesting Strip for go fast and it's not uncommon from the past history I understand...640 looks ready to deliver...

I hope your taking some video...can wait to hear the monster...

Only tech? I was thinking Dave needed to "hit the can" after a blistering run!

That front end sure has a lot of “air catchers”. Probably not legal for Bonnie but could try taping some over tomorrow.

'New stance is quite the opposite of the "Carolina Squat." Looks great; will be interesing to see how much speed it adds. Go Man Go!

ECTA has a starting line camera. They show speeds in the upper right hand corner. Search for ECTA Spring Fling 2022 on you tube.

OK guys now that I have had some sleep to clear the fog from my head after only less than 8 hours of sleep in 3 1/2 days.
We arived on Thursday and finally got through tech around mid afternoon we were told that we had a mandatory 1/2 mile pass as we had no runs there prior to this event.
Friday we made the rookie pass and ran 99.834 at the 1/2 mile
    Passing the rookie test.
Got the OK for full pass and ran that at around 2:30 kicking the rods out the side of the engine.
It was catastrophic damage leaving a hole from the head to the oil pan basically blowing the engine in half. Suspect it was rod failure.
We left Friday around 6 and came home and pulled the front off the truck for a better look see but gave it up to go get some sleep.
I'll post more later once I get the engine out. 20220424_104154.jpg 20220423_145347.jpg 20220423_145545.jpg

Oh and I might mention we were pushing into a 12 to 14 mph head wind on that rookie pass and still ran the 99.834 at the 1/2 mile

No, running due south with a 12 to 14 sustained head wind all day only one runway and a taxi no cross runway that I could see.
The airport is very old and is now used as a bone yard and storage for old plane's
But still used but not much traffic. Looks like a old Airforce base decommissioned lots of military housing around that falling down. Looks like a goast town

Sorry for the misfortune John but better than towing twice the miles to Bonneville and not making it to the 3 on the first pass. I hope you have time to prep another block, crank, any get other misc parts….JD

We truly feel like we found a more powerful combination. Just needed stronger internal parts to handle the new found power. We will bounce back but it might take a while as everything has to be made. Nothing on the shelf for this engine.
Not sure what's left inside that's OK yet.
I'll post more when I get it apart

Now that you've made your sacrifice to Mercury , he should bless you with a record on the salt. Those pictures made my heart drop , hope you can get it back together in time for Bonneville.
