I want to use my original 1946 Chevy gauge cluster. Has anyone found newer gauges to put into the gauge housing that still make it look relatively stock ? Any suggestions ?
Just a thought, I had a '46 Chevy. The temp and oil are manual. The amp gauge will work with 12v or 6v. (I have a '54 Chevy that I converted to 12v and used the stock gauge with no problem. They make a reducer for the gas gauge that allows you to use what you have as well. They run around $10 Just an idea. Also, here is a link that has a refinished complete set, upgraded to 12v and higher oil pressure for around $650. I have a 46 coupe and used new 12v VDO stuff. I removed the VDO's guts, made brackets an put them in my old gauge locations. Be sure you have the new gauges centered and level in the window. I didn't the first time.
Check United speedometer Service. I have an old old contact, I dont know if it is any good but might get you on the right track. 909-684-0292. Riverside CA
This gives me hope for using stock 39 gauges in my 39 Chev so they work with 12 V. That voltage reducer got my attention.
