tell me about it! my sis and bro inlaw moved to Powell... been trying to convince us to move there ever since... I've just about had enough of Cali... who needs some hot rods built in Ohio?!?!?!!!!
I'm about 140 miles from there But we go to the Goodguys show there every year. Ask KIRK! , I saw him so much I figured he thought I was stalking him! I don't know what to tell ya. It snows here...alot The roads are not socal smooth...ever It snows here...often The cost of living is cheaper..Foo sure It snows here.. They use alot of Salt on the roads when it does snow...not good for your car Tons of cool Hotrod shows, but it's not SoCal You can buy a kickass house for a fraction of the money spent on one in Cali Well, I hope this swinging endorsement helps
Hey it's Ohio.......If you don't like the weather, give it a few minutes it'll change... I remember a day a few years ago it was 70 and sunny in the morning and 30 and snowing in the afternoon! ....grouchy
Ohio really sucks....until you leave. Now, having spent 3 years working and living in Memphis, I LOOOOOOVE Cincinnati. I don't know about Columbus, though, I haven't found it to be all that great...
i live in columbus and i gotta agree with the wait a few minutes thing on the weather..we can get all the seasons in one week! sometimes one day! personally we were actually going to move to CA cuz my girl's from there and be with her family and all that.my advice would be to come out and stay with yer family for a bit.but not just a week.that probably wont be enough cuz my girl stayed with me a week and didnt think she'd mind it and she HATES it here! i lived in WV for, like, a week,so that's all the other states i can speak for.i'm from a smaller hometown here in ohio so moving to "the big city" was weird for me,but i can stand the change..my main prob is the weather and blah blah hope i helped ya! creepy
IM in dayton. I think if your going to live in ohio you need to get outside of the city limits, way outside. You better like cold weather. We have lots of cruise inns and car shows here but you better like the dampness and cold. The summers arent bad like some places down south. Did I mention the cold?
I'm in Cincinnati. Lived in the "Box of Granola" y9ou are in now... SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO glad I left. For the price of your house you can buy three here. Gas is cheaper. EPA not as rabid about smog controls. Gottta love it!
it isn't bad. i'm an hour away due east. always tons of things to do in columbus. tropical bistro on the western side is killer. saw the reverend horton heat there, good bit of car stuff poppin up and a couple of clubs. i don't do cities though... but as far as cities go, it sure isn't too bad. cool art scene too. winter's aren't that bad... and roads in southeastern ohio are by and large decent. SE ohio has some of the best roads in the US for touring according to a motorcycling magazine i had seen at one time. lotta cool curves, and as far as state routes go, generally good quality. they just paved the roads around my house... set a personal best time on my way to work this morning... haha
I live just south of Powell, in the "poor section" of Worthington. It's good here, man. Just be prepared to learn about OSU football, and you'll fit in anywhere. Actually, you can get by without knowing OSU football, as long as you can say, "Michigan sucks." It's our unofficial state motto, I think. No offense to the Wolverines on here, just stating the facts. We're about to have a very interesting Governor's race, and the Bengals may actually be good this year. Now if only we could get a decent RAB scene again, I'd be happy. Tucker
In general Ohio's roads are better than a lot of other states. Columbus is central in the state and some main interstates run through it so it's easy to go N, S, E or W on a trip. Cincinnati is only about 1-1/2 hours away and Cleveland is only about 2, Indy about 3, Pittsburgh about 3. Car scene is great in Columbus, many rods and customs as well as a BIG Goodguys show each July. I'd agree with a vacation there for a couple of weeks to see the lay of the land. BTW it does snow here but GENERALY not deep when it comes down.
May actually be good? They were in the playoffs last year and had a spectacular season, don't act like this year's the first year. This year - they're gonna DESTROY...
I agree with the guys who said you should go for a visit for a couple of weeks to see if you like it. Go in February. If you're OK with that, you might like living there. I moved to the midwest in '89. Hated the weather and I'm not into stick and ball sports so, I never fit in. It took me 5 years to get back to CA. Now my rule is I won't live anywhere that I can't grow a palm tree in the yard.
Living in Dayton, 60 miles west of Columbus, puts me an hour from the GG Nats, two hours from Indy and all the automotive goodness that happens there, (you all know the list for Indy), and less than three hours from Louisville and we all know what happens there in August, not to mention we’re less then 4 hours from Detroit and the stuff there, i.e. Detroit Autorama and Billetproof. I spent the first five months of '06 in So Cal and might be moving there in a year or two and believe it or not, the wife and I are still trying to rationalize that move. We're still on the fence on this one and might be for a long time. The single biggest gripe we have about Ohio is the weather. We both grew up here, (well, I grew up in Iowa and Ohio don't hold a candle to Iowa's definition of cold, seriously) and we're getting too old for this shit. Her brother lives in So Cal and is enticing us to move out there. There are many great reasons to move but the big reasons are what might keep us right here in Ohio. Does any of this make sense? Vance
I came to Columbus in 1983 from the Florida Panhandle, serious change in the landscape, but it was a move because of who I work for. Being a native of the Buffalo, N.Y. area, in my opinion, we get just enough snow here to piss you off! It is Utopia for a car buff, the activities are never ending and most years, you could drive your car all year long, but January and February can be tuff. Columbus is a good size city with everything from fine arts to red necks, a city within the confines of many corn fields. Many fine schools, universities and medical facilities. It is somewhat of a facad, surrounded by farmland, lives the corporate headquarters of many white collar businesses such as Wendy's, Nationwide Insurance, Borden, etc., there is nothing blue collar about Columbus. If you have a job here and you have never seen a mountain or hill or ocean in your life, you'll probably like it. Lots of Ohio State football and concerts etc. but as I said, employment could be difficult. If you want to know something more specific, shoot me a PM with your phone number and I'll call ya, John
Hey Homo, Does this mean the Leadheads are going National? Next thing ya know we may be compared to THEM! Stay your butt in Cali., I know the pace of life and all the libby garbage stinks but you know you'll miss the weather (or lack of it!)
