Has anyone in the Illinois or Missouri area had a shop machine a 10 spline driveshaft for the 6 spline adapter? I have had no luck calling local machine shops. I would be interested in buying a 10 spline 3.54 gear set but the ones sold by the vendors are all 6 spline. Art

Got to assume you are talking about early Ford stuff?I haven't seen one for awhile, but the circle track manufactures such as Speedway motors and Halibrand all used to make a 6 to 10 spline adapter,at the time it was for guys that already had a 6 spline driveshaft and were upgrading to the bigger 10 spline champ rear end.Sounds like you just need it turned around. If you can't locate one through any of the antique racer guys, check out a farm equipment supply-I've seen similar adapters for PTO shafts.Good luck

I came across this video on YouTube and it does explain the simple way to solve the
issues of re-splining a driveshaft, so it might be worth your time to watch it.

Yup. It's a thing! No need to resort to extreme measures.

Does that adapter just slip over the original 10 spline driveshaft end or do modifications have to be made to the driveshaft? Thanks, Art

The back end of your 36 drive shaft is female. The couples above are really to use a later 6 spline shaft with an early 10 spline male pinion shaft. T do what you want, I think, you would buy a coupler and have your hollow drive shaft rear end bored out to fit the coupler in and then weld it in place This would be to run a 36 drive shaft on a later 6 spline pinion shaft

You are right. Now I am back where I started, can't find a machine shop to adapt the driveshaft. Would a later 37/40 solid driveshaft and torque tube with the center bearing work? Are they the same length? Art

There's some original 3:54 gears out there with 10-splines. Not easy to find, but doable. I managed to get a set for my '35 pickup. You might consider swapping the driveshaft our for one with a 6 spline female end though, that would probably be the fastest way to get where you want to be.
