Looking for history On this 1956 F100 Has a lot of chrome custom interior Raised side pipes along bed Parky Nall precision engines motor ISCA sticker on windshield Painted by the BEARD Looks like maybe a seventies build
Whoever built that really had plenty of money for chrome plating at a shop with very big tanks. Very unique. Now days you just "wrap" the fenders. https://www.google.com/search?q=chr...512j0i512l3.4193j0j4&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8
Its a mids 70s build that has been around the Portland area forever. Talking with my grandfather he recalls when the truck hit the scene as the chrome fenders were impossible to miss. He recalls it hitting the indoor and parking lot shows in and around Portland in like 75/76 somewhere in there. Cant recall who owned it at the time, but the truck has pretty much looked the same with very little change since the 70s.
Don't remember the truck, but Parky Nall, had a good reputation for building engines. I think he moved to the South, as he specialized in Stock Cars, at one time worked for Galpin Ford, wrenching for Ron Hornaday Sr, Parnelli Jones and others.
That one must have gotten tucked away in a climate controlled hermetically sealed garage before I moved back up here from Texas as I don't remember seeing it and I hit shows in Portland not long after moving back in 1977. Even tucked away in a really nice home garage in the Portland area most cars that have been around that long are going to show some signs of aging and that one doesn't. Where ever it has been kept has to be climate controlled. All the frufru reminds me a lot of the blue Chevy AD truck with the blown small block that was running out of Portland in the early 80's that I saw at the Truckin Nationals in Ogden in 82. He didn't have chrome fenders but had chrome everything else.
That thing has been on Craigslist for a long time Hope someone gets it and leaves it as is The chrome fenders are just crazy
It's safe to say that there's no bondo in the fenders.... LOLOL ... And it's weird enough to probably be a hard sell.
Yeah from what I know of it, it wasn't seen much. I will see it out at some shows on the east side, I know I can recall it various times back to the mid to late 90's. Your probably remembering Jim Drakes Chevy, was inducted into the PRS Hall of Fame in 83. Truck was actually for sale at the Portland Swap meet this year. It was still the same as it was in the 80s other than a few primer spots from recent bodywork.
Exhaust a Oregon thing ? Local guy sold a ‘56 3 years back had exhaust just like that but gloss back and just a simple custom compared too the above.
Dig the seat and props to the upholster , but no long drives or your back would be aching, I surmise .
belly burners were pretty popular on custom pickups from about the mid 1950's thru the mid 1960's here is a thread on em https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/pic-request-bellyburners-stacks-etc.567766/
That is the truck I asked about a year or so back. I saw it at the Wooden Chicken Cruise maybe 7 or 8 years ago. Paint was by the Beard, glass roof, chrome fenders. A bit over the top but one of a kind and with a bear paint job, it was put together a few years back. Now I have my pictures. Thanks @Austinrod
I went to a number of shows in the 1970's up and down the Willamette Valley. Don't remember this truck.
Why not? I'm sure I saw this in a magazine years ago, maybe Street Rodder. Glad to see that it's still in great shape.
Hard to make out but that cowl says Paint by The Beard with his bearded logo preceding it. The truck completely blew me away when I saw it.
Thanks for the link. When I used to drive by the previous mentioned local ‘56 , I always thought I guess creative customizing did always have to be practical. Love reading about all about the history.
