Hi, I guess an introduction would be in order. My name is Ron and I live in Idaho right across the border from Spokane Washington. I am the proud new owner of a 1930 Ford Model A coupe hot rod. The hot rod is an older build, probably done in the early 2000s, and I'm in the process of fixing the 100s of little things that need attention on an older build (omg the wiring!) Anyway, to my question. The SBC in the car has a polished aluminum tri power manifold without any markings other than "bowties" that appear to be cast in (see pictures.) I've tried to find information on the manifold to no avail. Can anyone help me here? If this post is inappropriate or in the wrong place, I do apologize. I'm new to the H.A.M.B. forum. Thanks, Ron
Good looking hot rod,,,,,I don’t have any info on the intake . It seems perfectly appropriate here,,,,keep working on it . Tommy
It is interesting that it has bowties on it. That is a past and current GM trademark, which they will defend with the full force of the legal department. I wonder if this is an actual GM part.
Gimpy, I ***umed it was,,,,,I just figured someone had polished the badging off of it . GM number and firing order stuff . Maybe an old authorized part from the factory supplier. I’ve seen one before ,,,,but I can’t remember where . But,,,I was thinking the GM performance bow tie stuff had raised bow ties ? Tommy
Are the "bowties" embossed into the aluminum or raised above the surrounding surface? Maybe it's just the photo but the emblems appear to be slightly out of whack proportionally. They seem to be a bit too tall for their length. Doesn't look like something Chevrolet would offer if they produced it.
Hi All, Thanks for the welcomes, replies, and compliments on my hot rod. The bowties are embossed into the aluminum. My original thought was perhaps they were sandblasted or acid-etched but the edges are too well defined. I think it might be an Edelbrock though as I had to clearance the valve covers. Perhaps it will just have to remain a mystery. Ron
Nice ol car man! Welcome to the hamb! And blowing up the picture of your intake, it's possible that an engraver did that. It's insane what them cats can do with an engraver!
I'm the first to say that I've been proven wrong before (wife?) but i heard that somewhere cast in stone is a statement that chevy never produced a 3x2 manifold for the sbc-only for the big blocks starting with the 348. I'd think if they did, it would have some form of i.d. like cast numbers, serial nos., etc. Maybe a research mule motor might have had one. Claim its a factory prototype 1 off and put it on ebay for 10 large.
Ron , Forgive my bad eyesight,,,,,those bow ties are raised . Looks like they polished all the intake,,,,,but left the bow ties as cast to give some definition to the look . It looks like a really cool package ,,,,,and the car overall looks very nice,,,,you should be proud . Tommy
Thanks! I actually purchased the car out of New Jersey off eBay. I've tried to do some research on the car and found out the guy I bought in from only had it for about three months and had bought it from a guy in M***achusetts. I don't know where the M***achusetts guy bought it, the trail goes cold at that point. Doing a VIN search, I did find out it was "spruced up" in a shop in New Mexico a few years back but I contacted the shop owner and he didn't know who did the original build. I'm fixing a few nagging problems but hopefully you will be seeing the car (and me) around this summer.
The bowties are actually recessed which is why I think they might be part of the original casting. Someday if and when I ever pull the manifold, maybe I will find some markings on the underside.
now that’s what I call ‘throwing out a challenge’………… Normally someone asks a question like that on here and the correct answer takes between 3 and 5 minutes. welcome to the HAMB and I am sure that @squirrel or someone equally as knowledgeable will be along to answer your question shortly……. Nice model A ! bttt…… .
My 2 cents , Offy with etching . Doesn’t really matter is as cool as one can get . Drive it like you stole it and enjoy the hobby !
