I’ve searched with minimal luck. My 46 ford sedan has a light in the trunk mounted to one of the hinges. I’m getting ready to take it apart and see what I need to do wire it but wanted some guidance first. At the moment there is no current wiring to follow. So my questions are

where is the power originally coming from on this?
Is there a switch for it that I have not found or aware of yet?

any photos of complete set ups that are still together?

    thanks
    Ethan

Power comes from the taillight wire (usually).
It is most likely a mercury switch, activated by moving the lid.

    mercury switch

My wire was there, not sure where it came from, possibly split from the tag light.

First, I'd test the light and (mercury) switch?
With trunk open, the ohm meter should show continuity across the hot and ground terminals of the socket, switch closed.
Now at some point the continuity should be lost as the trunk lid is lowered.
Will that get things stayed regarding socket and switch?
This ***umes the mercury switch completes the ground circuit.
If that is true, the socket probably should have a constant hot, like a dome light.
I used a lot of if's. @Crazy Steve , does this sound at all correct?

  7. I forgot that mercury switches used to be common....
