Projects Shyboy's Positive Energy Custom Sled Quest, 1950 Merc

  1. Oh man, I know that job all too well. Nice to see the underside of a Virgin, and it's all there. Looks like you have the Standard rocker rust to deal with. I will say it's nowhere as bad as most I've seen. There have been a couple outfits making good replacement units but haven't shopped them for quite some time. I don't know of any that are still available. Looks to me that a Brake and a Sheer will get you what you need to do a good repair. Did you ever try to light it up to see what the Motor was like?

I did, I could only get to run for probably less that 10 seconds. fuel was spraying everywhere from the carburetor.

  3. Pretty common for the Float to stick to the bottom of float bowl after sitting for years not running. In lou of taking it all apart I'd try removing it from the motor and turning it upside down and shake it a little, listen for the float to rattle and try again. What's to lose?

Guys, sometimes we just need to see what the chop amount looks like. That's what the tape looks like to me anyway. There's not even enough on the car as a guide.

Also, for any of the young bucks chopping a car, listen to @Hot Rods Ta Hell and do all the other major metal repairs and don't be a goober, like me, who did it all *** backwards and chopped it first. It all worked out (well, there's still a bit to go, haha) but based on the list of work, it made very little sense. Now, I can't imagine doing out of order on a more complex chop (compared to mine), like this car.
