"Buy your pal a beer or a hunert". OK, but how do you buy a hunert? With a $100 bill? :D:p:D

That's the first thing I do to any of my cars-put in a master cut-off switch...not only is it a good idea, but saves the battery when the car sits for a long time...also a fusible link that can blow when you have something shorting out is the very first thing you should do while wiring...

Glad to hear that there wasn't much damage...your guardian angel was watching over you...

Actually, there was a master fuse that didn't blow. The guy from AA told me that should have happened. I said, "it didn't ".

Taking the carefully assembled and painstakingly detailed engine in my Buick apart. It wiped a lobe on the camshaft. The Buick Gods hate me.

There is a lot of cams going flat on initial start up. You are not the only one to have this happen. Had a very reputable engine builder build my peg one and had Gibbs brake in oil and a additive in it. While breaking it in on his dyno the cam went flat in the first run. He said this is not the first he had fail. It took 4 sets of lifters to make a good set. If the lifters don’t rotate when turning the motor over they are not ground correct on the bottom. After we dissembled the motor and cleaned it up new bearings we reassembled it and it ram perfect on the dyno.

That's a beautiful car, and you've done some awesome work. Hate to hear about the setbacks, but we all get 'em along the way. You'll come out on top. Thanks for sharing the car build!

I wish someone at Crower would explain to me how 15 lifters look perfect and one failed. Shit! 0505221502a.jpg 0505221502.jpg 0505221459.jpg

You can be rest assured that they'll tell you it's something you did and there product is flawless. Went through this with Comp. Cams years ago and it's always a no win situation. Good luck on the tear down and hope the damage is minimal.

So close and yet so far. That sucks big time Rock Able. I feel your pain. Nothing worse that putting your newly painted car together and then have to tear the engine apart.:(

Well, the particles get washed directly into the pan...and they were there. The filter only had very small particles in it. The pump looks good and its inlet has a fine strainer. The cam bearings look ok, so I'm going to roll with it.

I would flush out all the oil gallery and check the pump for gaulding any where that small metal particles can hide.

Since the oil pump is integral to the timing cover, I've already disassembled and inspected it. No horrors there.

First I've seen this thread. I moved a few years back and am still working on my new shop so I haven't been to the forum much. I have a 49 Roadmaster Sedanette. I used the same OT front as you but went with the Chevy long trailing arm rear suspension. Your build has given me a lot of great tips and ideas for mine. I love your inner fenders. I hope to get back started this fall on my build. Pic is an old one from my previous garage.
Hope you get your fire issue straightened out soon!

The Buick God's truly despise me. I have now failed 2 camshafts. This one failed in 10 minutes, and yes I was using proper lubricants, etc. It's not like i dont know what I'm doing. This is defective parts. This is expensive and a lot of work to repair. I'm calling TA Performance on Monday. Until then, I will be tearing it down once again. Sigh.

Feel for ya Rockable. That is a bunch of crap and certainly none of us ever want to experience that. Good luck with your conversation with TA.
