Held off setting up radio till Wednesday. A friend come over and we both sat in the car and tuned it in, just had a great time picking on each other, name calling, insults, you know typical kid shit. . Got to the point of hooking up my phone so I can listen to my doowop stuff. I handed him the line I bought and he said we don't need no stinking line:confused:; blue tooth baby! Modern times ya know. Another insult! Gees them speakers sound good, better than before, surprised they actually all worked!:D Got to find a place to store all the inputs/outputs I am not using and a holder to park the phone. I suppose I could hook the blue tooth up in my DD too? Talking scary now.

IMG_0399.JPG I was able to finish the trans. cooler install. Having the front end so it is removable is the best thing ever when your body is worn out. This is a stand alone cooler which takes 1/2 inch hose. I replaced the 5/16 line with 3/8 . Fired it up , no leaks and all is well !

My 97's have been a bit drippy as of late, so removed them and installed new plug seals. The middle one was the main culprit but all got the treatment and a liberal  clean up and polish whilst it was apart. Tedious job that I have been putting off much like the power window motors in my 442. The new ones have been in the trunk for a couple of years now. They still work decent on the way down but winding them up takes about half an hour...each.

That was the after shot once I hit it with the mothers. The before shot was a nice yellowy-orange hue and a bit sticky with streaks down the side. Very traditional but not up to standards. The leaking fuel did wrinkle my base/clear on the carbs near the screw caps which was a disappointment. It is not visible once assembled but I am considering running them through the chrome tank next winter. I wouldn't recommend painting 97's unless they are going on your mantle...or craigslist.

Working on a plan to put the hood on this machine. One thing about it you could get a daytime race lin IMG_0405.JPG IMG_0407.JPG IMG_0410.JPG ed up and pull the front end off in a couple minutes and lose about a hundred lbs.

I hate to hear this! It makes me think of a quote from the 18th century or so gors something like this: all ships are safe in the harbour... But that's not what ships are for! All hot rods are safe in the garage.... But thats not what hotrods are for!

I don't mean to be dismissive of the OP's sentiments but there are plenty of old Fords in the museums also. It makes me sad to think such a bitch'n car would be mothballed.

Oh, I almost forgot. The wife and I put the '64 sport fury in gear and just went for a run in the sun.

  18. 20220515_120727.jpg Well my car is still stuck in paint prison but I still have a little bit to do do finish the engine, mocked up the partially home made throttle linkage today, temporary plastic spacers will be replaced with aluminum ones. 20220515_120756.jpg 20220515_112143.jpg

  19. Been wanting to use these stock speaker grills on the package tray of my '57. Thing is the bolt tabs don't line up with holes in the 6X9 speaker. So I welded my own tabs and I didn't bun up all the paint. I touched up the edges with a permanent marker. Finished up my new radio install recently too.

I'm just waiting for my new freeze plugs to arrive for my FE, the incorrect size ones were installed when engine was rebuilt. In the interim my decal guy dropped over the put these on the car.

I found a couple PCV hoses that were bad; never seen any that got soft and mushy, measured for and half way designed a PCV Flow limiting valve.

I got some seat time today. Met a marketplace buyer and sold a door and picked up a hundred. That will buy 19 gallons of 90 or maybe 10 gallons of 100 octane. Made a couple stops at friends shops and just enjoyed this machine. Moving the trans. cooler has brought the temperature down to 190-195 on a sunny 85 degree day. I am happy with that. Last weekend I was coming home in my '39 Chev coupe and began to hear lifters rattling. Oil pressure was great, and I was just a couple miles from home, so drove home and parked it in the garage. I got out today and pulled the valve covers to check lash. To my surprise I found one rocker on #6 cylinder on my SBC was turned sideways and not even on the pushrod or valve stem! I loosened the poly lock, and backed it off, then tried to adjust it down again, but it just kept going tighter, and never got solid. Ran out of threads, so I stopped and removed all the rockers.
Pulled the pushrods, and checked them to see if any were bent, but none were. I did notice the pushrods all had wear at the guide plate area, and these were new hardened pushrods 3000 miles ago. I believe the supplier mistakenly sent standard pushrods.
I decided to pull the intake and check the lifters and see what I might discover. It's a Howards roller camshaft, and all the rollers on the lifters looked perfect. I took them to my basement shop where I have an arbor press, and began pushing the plungers down on each lifter to see if any felt weak. 4th lifter I checked collapsed down 1/4" and didn't come back up! I took the circlip out, and then dumped the plunger out. Tried to dump the internal spring out, but it was stuck. Got a pick hook inside and couldn't pull it either. So the spring must have broken, and jammed inside.
I checked the rest and found two more that felt weak, and went down with less pressure, so I'm replacing all 16 lifters, and tossing the whole set away. Just have to sit and wait for parts to be delivered later this week, or early next week. Getting another full set of chromoly pushrods and the lifters so it's all new.

Upgraded to a 2500 stall converter in my avatar. Along the way I pinched the distributor wires AND the alternator charge wire between the block and transmission. Such a dumb ass. I upgraded during the quick repair by using a larger charge wire with a safer routing and adding a 2-wire connector to the distributor to make things easier in the future. So overall it was a day of improvements.

After lots of sanding and masking I finally got some paint on my roadster frame. Next I have to remask and spray the body color on all of the surfaces that show. I’m happy to finally be making progress on this project. It’s been stalled for far too long.
