With Summer almost here, I was wondering the best way to flush, refill and properly dispose of coolant in my '55 Ford Country Sedan wagon with the 272 engine.

    Thanks...

Remove the two plugs above the pan rail in the block to completely drain everything. I flush the rad separately. With the engine I remove the thermostat for a better flush of big s..t if I think there is any. I run the engine with those block plugs out and feeding water in at the top After flush and empty. usually I’m putting back in the thermostat then …I use a 50-50 and mix myself with distilled water only.

How old is the antifreeze - Most only need changing about 3 to 5 years.. Flush is not necessary if the old stuff comes out clean. To get all the old stuff out, open the drain plugs on the side and disconnect the lower radiator hose from the radiator as well as opening up the radiator drain.. Recommended is 50/50 water/antifreeze. You can buy it already diluted or do it your self. Do not dilute if you buy the 50/50 mix. Use the green/yellow stuff if that is what you have now, not the red or other color stuff
