Just got back home from Iowa where I picked up my new baby, a 1948 Dodge Club Coupe. Would like to see pictures of other Dodges and any ideas or suggestions. Plan on keeping it all Mopar with a 318.
Well I know it's not a Mopar but I think this '41 Buick will serve as some good ideas for your new project.
You won't see alot of them out there. I have a 46 that got a big block mopar in it. If you have any questions ask I'd be more then willing to help you out. Heres pic of mine.
Being a big Mopar fan I'm pleased to hear you're planning a 318 for your coupe. Was it one of these in convert form that Pat Boone drove in the movie "April Love" ? i guess most of you weren't born when the movie was released in the early sixties so we may not get any confirmation on that. I can remember being dissappointed that they didn't use a Ford in the movie.
These seem to coming out of the woodwork. I picked up a 47 3 window coupe a few month ago. Putting a 383/727/3.55 sure grip in it.
not any more. I found the dodge and switched gears. I wish I could keep the chevy, but no room and needed to pick one. I still think there needs to be more mopars in chevys and fords though.
try to find a copy of Tex Smith's Mopar Hot Rod Book. Has a chapter on how to do the 318 in a 46. Rear sump oil pan, oil pump pick up, dipstick & tube from van or truck, drivers side ex. man. from 70s Dart. other stuff of use.
That book is impossible to find for any reasonable price. atleast for me anyways. http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/1878772171/ref=dp_olp_2/103-1761641-3184608?ie=UTF8 Get ahold of Ply-do. they have motor mount kits etc for SB application. Nothing for BB so I'm wingin' it.
Take a look at the P15-D24 forum, http://merc583.addr.com/cgi-bin/webbbs/webbbs_config.pl Lot's of info, both stock and rod, good group of guys. I am also very pleased you are going 318, keep it mopar.
I was thinking g***er along the lines of the High and the Mighty, but 46mopar changed my mind, Maybe it was the dirt track? That thing rules!
We have a 47 3 Window we are doing a mild custom and putting a 302 C-6 in and we want to use a 53 ford Dash. If there are any of the small parts you come up needing PM me and we'll talk. Gumpa
Ya the big block mopar is the way to go for the power but it comes with a few down sides. My coupe has a GM subframe and the car feels real nose heavy it took awhile to get used to. You also have to cut the firewall and move it back afew inches. The trans hump has to be reworked also. I've seen a few with small blocks in them thats the way to go. Not alot of cutting and the car will handle real well. I have the Tex Smith book on the small block swap in a Plymouth pretty much the same car and they make it look easy. Somewhere online there is this chapter of the book posted but I don't know where my cousin had it I don't recall where he found it. There is one thing I know for sure if you want you tires to last put a small chevy in it....... Later John
I got lucky on eBay a few weeks ago and picked one up for @ $30 bucks shipped. I looked for about a month before I came across this one and was SURE someone would outbid me. Awesome book with lots of very useful information. -Troy
Thanks Gumpa, I may be contacting you. Was missing some trim parts, head lights and other items but got lucky and found everything in the trunk (once we got it open).
All I can say is if you put anything but a mill from Chrysler in that thing, the Mopar guys will give you endless **** about it. Sides, junkyards "give" away 318s.
A friend of mine got an identical club coupe out of the woods near our hometown and he put the body on an S-10 ch***is, identical wheelbase and treadwidth, turned out really nice (his floors and frame were shot) I have a '40 Chrysler myself and I love these cars. 41 C28, if you decide to sell that visor, let me know, I'd like one like that for my Chrysler.
