Pinstipers: Is using lacquer thinner with 1Shot OK?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Irish Dan, Aug 30, 2006.

  1. I guess in the final analysis, the CAN says it best. Lacquer thinner is used to thin Lacquer. Enamel reducer is used to thin Enamel. Turps and mineral spirits are thinners for oil based paints, as it says in the directions.
Paint companies do a lot of experimenting to come up with the directions and we usually choose to ignore them, and ask somebody else what the secret is.
It is right there on the can.

Any of you ever use a product named "Edge" for thinning or "smoothing" One-Shot? If so, what do you think of it?

Hi, old sign painter here. Striped too many cars & trucks. Turps is better than mineral spirits but, it smells really strong. One product I and many other
sign painters use, is Penetrol. It's an aditive that slows the drying and keeps the gloss. It also strengthens the paint film which helps with all those wash
jobs that love to wear out striping. Turps has a great slippery fell which is a
help in pulling long lines. In California you can only buy turps in quarts, when
you can find it. Don't waste your $$$$ on imitation turps
Just keep up the practice and you'll be joining the ranks in no time.

You fellow HAMBERS have given (as usual) a lot of very savvy advice. I met El Vago ( Ray Smith aka Safarinut ) and was blown away by him, his work, and his ability to instruct on the subject of pinstriping. He ought to teach courses on the subject! I can pinstripe designs on paper all day long! I've had a lot of people watch me render my designs, and often they ask me to sell them! I'm JUST NOW learning to stripe with 1Shot! I'm NOT out to get rich & retire with a great pinstriping legacy. I'm told I have talent, & I love doing art work in many different mediums. It so happens that I LOVE striping, & never get tired of "doing the drill"! Wish me well, I'm goin' for it! Thanks for all your comments! I really DO appreciate it! Oh, yeah, I'm goin' to Hunnert Car Pileup this fall! Hopefully, I'll be "pullin' a lotta' lines there!
