People who have so much skill & confidence that they can paint something while putting it together the first time just make me feel bad about myself. :( :D

If it makes you feel better, I haven't painted the doors for that reason. I don't think we can get them on without hitting them.

Life stuff has been getting in the way but we got the drivers door fitted. The door stop and the gas filler. Does this truck make me look small? IMG_20220526_144838070_BURST001.jpg IMG_20220526_144610768.jpg

The gas fill is going to slow you down its sticking out to much. Think aero dynamic for faster speeds :)

Remember the rules only allow 1 inch of seat cushion you almost cant see out the windshield!
    Looking good by the way.

Production Pickup says all original parts in their original position.
As long as I can see the mile markers, I'm ok. We're taking it to Maine in the fall for testing. Plenty of room for adjustments.

If the tank is not there. Put a cap on the filler, push it back as far as you can, put a piece of rubber with a hole in it over the line and put a radiator hose clamp on the fill line inside to hold it inplace.

I had to do the same thing on my 40 Chevrolet in the gas coupe cl*** on the right rear fender. I even cut off the filler line 1” inside the fender well long enough to only hold it in place with the hose clamp. It’s still that way today with the fuel tank in the trunk.

Thank you. Great advice. The tank is in the bed.

I love the colors of your truck! Are they stock colors? If so, do you mind sharing? I’m looking for stock looking colors to repaint my 1965 GMC pickup.

It's supposed to be GMC diesel engine green but it's not exactly. You can get original colors from Jim Carter truck parts or other places, I'm sure.

Awesome build and great explanation of your steps along the way.
Any chance you'll bring the truck at the next Jalopyrama?

I'm doing a demo at the Inliners International Convention tonight on citric acid rust removal.

    Wow! This doesn't use electricity?

  21. Not to sidetrack this thread, but would you please start a post on this to share the results with others here who haven't tried citric acid? Thanks!

  22. No electricity, and it works better than electrolysis because it is not line-of-sight rust removal, as is electrolysis.

  23. Tons of threads on here discussing it, just do a search

I race bikes at the Loring track in Maine. They are strict on safety tech but they won't bust balls, lol, on minor cl*** requirements. They want everyone to race.. I have not read every post, you have likely read the rules..but..... Make sure your tire speed rating exceeds the cl*** record. Tires actually listed as racing tires may be exempt from this rule. Good luck and watch out for moose on the track...After the day's racing many racers and the track officials go to a local bar ...The food is nothing special but the people are...Good luck!

I am really enjoying following your build.

I have a question on the splice in your windshield pillar.
I understand why, but have not seen how you are securing them for your speed run.

    Thanks

IMG_20220512_190315100~2.jpg The pillar unbolted abd slides off . On the inside trim pieces cover the bolts. I'll try to find a better picture of the interior post part. We didn't cut the post. We had to drill out the spot welds that attached the bottom of the cab to the back of the floor. IMG_20220328_152045798_MP~2.jpg IMG_20220421_162010134_MP~2.jpg
