My dad always had hot rods and race cars in the 50's and 60's and he p***ed away 2 year ago ,so while we were cleaning out some of his stuff from the garage I found a carb with a cool looking top on it and threw it in a box to bring to my shop , well now I'm in the process of building my 30 model a that use for exhibition races and jalopy showdown and was goin to put a Stromberg 97 on It and remembered I had this one ,so I dug it out and this is it , Has a sp top so there is no numbers on it only ones I found were ee1 and 8a and p19400 Any idea what it is , I guess a 48 , but I need to order a rebuild kit , what should I order it for is my main ??
Venturi size will tell you the size 31/32" is 97, 1 1/32" is a 48 and 7/8" is an 81. 97's and 48's take the same kit the 81 has a smaller accelerator pump and base to body gasket. Genuine Stromberg kits are the best.
I think the kits fit them all. Look on the p*** side of the bowl. It will be marked 31/32 if a 97 center sectio. 1 1/32 if a 40 or 48, Doubtful if is a 81. Funny that the choke arm is still there but no choke.
If you don't want to get flamed by this group it would be best for you to do an intro before just jumping on here and asking questions.
The top on that carb is an SP TOP. Aftermarket. If it is an original SP Top, it is worth some dough. It could be one of several manufactures that made that style top. Great find b y the way
FYI: 4. While we don't require "introductions," some members do appreciate them so it might be a good idea for you to do one here. Just introduce yourself and let folks know what you are all about.
I didn't do an intro, but I like Strombergs! I think the OP should post pics of his project as penance.
