It's good to help if it's...
    - Possible
    - Wanted
    - Warranted
Whether it's possible isn't even a question. We can do anything.
And if the other two questions can be answered yes, I'd like for us to help.

I saw him years ago at the street rod nationals in Louisville selling autographs. He looked then like he really needed the money. That was 2001 maybe?

    Maybe do our own thing?
Send it directly to Matt from us.
Or maybe make a pile of our own and send it to the collection mentioned as from the HAMB?
    I don't know.
    What do you guys think?

I dont know enough of the facts and his background.
A life resume may help me better understand.
All I can say is he probably earned mountains more money than I will ever have the opportunity to.
I am guessing that he just joins a long list of failed prominent people that had it all at one time...
I'm a heartless sceptical ******* at times and I apologise for it.

He has only been in a handful of movies, hes not the superwealthy hollyweird elite. I think he has as much recognition for writing books as his acting career. American graffiti was his shining star, aloha bobby and rose was his second biggest so that should tell you everything. Pauls a nice guy and treats his fans well

I've relayed this story before but I'll always remember it. I saw him probably 15 years ago now. He was signing autographs. He was pretty popular but this one guy comes up and says "I wish you would do another movie like American Graffiti".

In a dead pan reply he says "So do I".

Looked for this thread first thing this morning.

Ryan says Paul's need is real.
    And he was selling autographs?
That's all I need to hear.

American Graffiti was so instrumental and influential to us. We often speak of it. Two separate threads just recently. A great source of entertainment for us.
I have a strong sense that it would be quite fitting that we do this. I'm actually quite sad to hear that Matt's not doing well. I think we should take that boy under our wing. Tell him not to worry about it... that we want to do this. Insist that he becomes a hamb member so we can keep communication lines open.

I don't want to see us help just a little bit. How about a LOT?

I looked at the thread you posted and saw that he had married Suzanne De P***e in 1978 . Clicked on her name and saw that her net worth was in excess of 40 million. Nowhere in the article about her is a mention of having married Paul. Just my thought but I'd say the split probably cost him. If you guys want to do something from the HAMB, I'm in. Just tell me what it is.

I like this idea. If Paul needs help I think we should all step up.

I met Paul many years ago and got to talk with him for a bit. I found him to be a very gracious down to earth and personable guy. He really does have a genuine love for his fans.

Not to go off topic, but I just read in the news that Bo Hopkins has died at the age of 80.

Sad that others went on to become stars while Paul, at least to me, was THE MAN in AG. And a great actor, I thought. I guess Holywood had enough studs, and needed more ****s.

So he has no close friends, no kids and not one rich movie star from AG willing to help him out and it falls back to us.
Ron Howard could pick him up and write a check in a heart beat that would be of more help than what ever we could do. Where is Harrison Ford???
    Really...

Ryan was gracious enough to communicate with me about this. Brought me up to speed.

Apparently, the previous feature here on the HAMB is already responsible for an additional $13,000 or so that went to the GoFundMe page for Paul.

So that's great. I feel a little better. So if nothing else, I'll just send in my little bit, too.
    But...
If enough of you guys think that we could do more, I'm all for that. I'd help however I could. I don't know about me spearheading the thing. I'm not sure I know how... LOL.

It's always way easier to talk about it than to actually do it. And I understand if nothing more comes of it. But if we could...

As you, I'm also wondering where everybody else is who could possibly help.

But I think maybe it's not my concern what everybody else does. Only what I do.

    And don't forget George Lucas, who did better than everyone (in AG) combined post AG, with his series of Star Wars and Indiana Jones movies;

Ron could have gave him a decent role in one of his movies like he recently did with Bo.

I gave what I could...I read he actually committed actor suicide by his incredible portrayal of abusive husband opposite Farrah Fawcett in " The Burning Bed"...aside from both Graffiti movies, and his work in cult cl***ics by Jonathan Demme, " Melvin and Howard" and " Handle with Care/ Citizens Band", a great screen presence and as many said, all around humble and nice guy.
