want simple driver- friend has '90 Dodge pu donor. cummins/stick/alloys. High mileage- its a rebuild. Or: wedge Mopar/727? Or: early hemi/????trans Or: late hemi/trans- dollars/ complications. I'm a good fabricator- will learn about bead roller 'cuz lower doors need help. moving from Fla to Mo. (old Nebraska boy, movin' close to home-20 yrs. e'nuff. Somewhere between Clinton & Springfield). Long time lurker, thanx, mike
easy and cheapest would probably be 60's-70's small block or big block with an automatic. You can still find the 4 speed setups fairly easy as well.I have had a bunch of 340/383/440 motors and they've stood up to a lot of abuse.
the cummins is probably way too heavy, the late model hemi will probably be way expensive/not traditional/hard to install, early hemi will be expensive to rebuild, a 318/340/360/440/383 would probably be cheapest except for maybe a slant six. that said it depends on what you have to spend verses what you want to use the car for. ex. show car=hemi, mpg daily =slant 6
I'm not a purist but, if it's a Chrysler product...keep it Chrysler. If it's a Chevy, keep it Chevy (there are exceptions...) If it's a Ford...anything goes! Don't know why that is. I guess I just view Fords as being....whorelike. Just enjoy it whatever the decision may be. A '31 Chrysler is pretty rare isn't it?
