Setting up my Carter 4070 BD pump I called Carter Tech. I’m running 94 tri power on a 324 olds. My question originally was to ask if I needed a by p*** loop and ask about if the pump would automatically shut when the carbs had no demand. Told him how I planned to run a regulator to 4lbs as suggested by my builder. Carter tech. rep advised against using a fuel regulator as the 4070 is internally regulated. Toss the regulator or do what my builder suggested? I’ll call my builder to check in. Thanks all, I’ll put on some popcorn

It isn't going to hurt anything to have the regulator in place, then you can see if the internal regulator is doing its job, and you have a backup if it fails. Just buy from a reputable vendor so you don't get a counterfeit one......aka........cheaper price.

The second regulator will behave better if it has a higher input pressure than your desired output. If you can adjust the internal pump regulator to say 6 psi, then have your Holley drop it to 4 psi you will have a nice setup.

I think you said that backwards. Have the external (Holley) moderate the flow to say 6 or so lbs and then the internal regulator will receive a more consistant supply to moderate further. The Holley can provide a return line to the tank so the pump is always flowing and keeping fuel cool.:)
