Project "Victoria"

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Chopped50Ford, Sep 1, 2006.

  1. Im working on a fellow HAMB'ers car (Dirt) and thought i would post a few updates of what I have been doing.

So far, I have given it a nice grill teeth treatment using VW bumper guards, fab'ed up some bracketry to give them a nice full floating look.

On top of that, Im closing in the grill mouth opeing to make it flow a little better.

There are other modifications that I will be doing to this beauty, Ill keep posting them as I go along.

Im happy with the results thus far.

    Enjoy.

Great work Chopt50, I knew VWs were useful for parts.....

My favorite kinda of posts. Looks good. I like the way the grill teeth line up with the shape of the bumper. What kind of tubing did you use to close up the grill opening?

  6. Sweeeeeet! - De Soto grilles are over rated anyway!! Can I say it again?

Dirt' ride is looking good, Norm! He kinda filled me in on what you are doing to it. Can't wait till I get to see it at the show that it will debut at. KNUX!

  9. Im using 1/2" tubing to make the mouth opening. I had to do a couple mock-ups to finally decide on this.

The tubing is apprx. 1.75" to 2" out so the flare can stay consistant.

Made the curve with a single piece of sheetmetal, using shinker/stretcher and planishing hammer. Took about an hour to construct.

Thanks for the compliments...Ill keep ya all updated as I go.

    Cheers!

i cant say enough about norm and his work. he is a hell of a nice guy and i am so happy with the way the car is turning out. i have had those teeth in the trunk of victoria for well over two years and just never got around to making a grill. i am glad i waited because i really like the way norm did it. the car will debut at axle's show in riverside on sept 30th. here is a link to his site www.axleshows.com axle has agreed to dedicate this show to my dad who was killed last month working on his 56 chevy.

i am on disability due to a back injury so i cant work on my rides. norm offered to finish up victoria for me so it will be done for my dads car show. even after i told him cash is real tight right now he said dont worry about that lets just get the car done and we'll worry about the money later. that should tell you what a stand up guy norm is. i had never even met him face to face until i dropped the car off. like i said i cant say enough about norm. if anyone in socal needs some work done i highly recomend him.

once again thanks norm, i'll see you in the morning around 10.

I dig how you handled the restyling of the grill opening.

  12. Here is another update on Project 'Victoria'.

Got the front welded up, rounded the hood corners. Now its time to grind and shape.

Wow!!!!! That grill is killer!!!! I am planing a tooth grill too on my 53' but I have the 52' front end, but think I will try to use the bumper guards I just took off the car, plus a few more, so if anybody has some laying around PM me. I love the look you got, and that you used something other than a grill to make ...very cool!! Any chance we could get picks of the bracets? Did you just bolt them to the lower pan?

Nice work on your grille! Here is a pic of my 50 Merc 7 years ago. Sorry for the bad scan!

my boyfriend also did the grille out of VW bumperguards, it was a christmas present to me:p
You must know, here in germany we can´t find Desotogrilles on every corner ;) , so we have to find alternatives, which is sometimes better than the stuff everybody uses.

Sweet I'd love to see one, have you seen what Lowsprings did, he put them in the air intakes, that way you only see them when they are on, very cool. By the way low springs does very clean work.
