Stop parking that hemi where the Harley sits. It's embarr***ing. A poor excuse and an offensive comment best left in Archie Bunkers living room not our chat room.
The '51-'53 engines were offered with both Fluid Drive and conventional standard transmissions. The fluid coupling had studs that protruded through holes in the crank flange and was secured with nuts and external-tooth star washers. Standard transmission flywheels had a depression on the clutch side and D-shaped bolts (similar to connecting rod bolts) were set up against the edge of the depression to prevent rotation and the same nuts and washers were used on the block-facing side of the flange. Fluid drive went away in '54 when the Power-Flite replaced it and the crank was drilled and tapped for bolts. This eliminated the need for room to get an open-end wrench between the crank and block to tighten the nuts. With the nuts and washers cone the crank flange was moved closer to the block. Use a short throwout bearing with the '51-'53 crank/flywheel and a long throwout bearing with the '54 and later crank. This is my last post. Too many politically-correct, left wing millennials on this site for my liking. I rarely get on here anyway and only when someone asks me a question or sends me a link to a post asking for a comment. You'll also notice that I dropped my Alliance membership a while back and for good reason. I'm done with this ****. BTW, HOT HEADS Research and Racing Inc, USA was established by Mike and Mellonie McLeod in 1996. He's the one who did all the research and developed the heads and manifolds. Bob Walker was just a distributor and he eventually bought the name and rights to distribute the heads and manifolds. He is NOT the expert he leads everyone to believe. He's a SALESMAN plain and simple and when things are going downhill, there's smoke rising down in the hollow. It's pretty hard to miss from anywhere up on the ridge. Check the fire department records.
I apologize that you had to be exposed to this uhhhh… “gentleman” on my site. He’s been removed from our ranks and won’t be back. Ever.
*And my shop, on every one. I have a nice bushed tap guide. Since much of what comes across my bench is destined to get a transmission adapter, bolts and nuts are difficult to install.
You're right about the price. I was looking because I cant find mine. I was taking upholstery cl***es at Valley College several years ago in San Bernardino and Ron Ceridono was taking the same cl*** and working on his steel cab late 31 Ford Pickup. He gave me a copy of the Complete Hemi Book that I have hiding somewhere.
Buy a gym membership. You'll need to get plenty strong just to lift the heads on and off. Make sure you throroughly inspect any parts you buy. I got stooged on a whole lot of 392 parts once. That was an EXPENSIVE mistake. But then EVERYTHING Hemi is expensive.
I'm currently lying down on the couch in the shop, as I just moved a pair of bare Hemi heads from one shelf to another. That might be the end of my day.
Changing cams 3 or 4 times led me to having an aluminum intake manifold. The Hot Heads aluminum one is nice -- once you remove the "warts" on the runners.
While this "gentleman" may be gone from our ranks, the offensive remarks that let to his exit are still up and visible. 2. No political/religious/racial posts at all. No exceptions. He made them, they remain. His signature appears to be a celebration of what he did. Now it will appear on every single post that he ever made here. Maybe that is to serve as a warning to others to keep their mouths shut, but I am suspect.
