seems like alot of work for a "get famous quick" scheme. when he was on the mad fab dvd he said we was ditching his other "normal" car projects becaue after building the roth clone car they just didnt do it for him anymore, had to build something crazy again. preety sure hes just doing what he digs

Is there any pics of the bare chassis?? I really dig coil springs like that, looks like the chassis work is top notch. Got some hang-ups about the shapes on the body, but judging by the build quality, I think it will all come out in the wash. Really looking forward to seeing more of it!

  9. It's the Alien Being Hisself! Ya know, I'm serious about the tinting technology. The engineering is going to get a lot more costly to take this kind of thing to the next level. (it's up to you whether you want to evolve to a methane atmosphere.)

One of the coolest things about big daddy roth style cars is how they contrast cars from earlier eras. So even if you prefer early period cars, appreciate these cars, because they make the stuff you dig look that much more pure and utilitarian. If everybody were building the same thing we'd all lose out. Oh, and by the way, that car's the shit.

Thanks for posting Matt, hell I remember when that was just plaster and re-bar! Looks pretty cool, can't wait to see it complete. And yes, Dave builds them because he loves the style, not to "get rich or Famous" Of course this thread is probably why he isn't on the HAMB much....

The chassis on this thing is awesome too. I tried to save the pics he sent me earlier but there is something screwed up that I can't save stuff sent from AOL.

I was going to run a blown HEMI in my top secret project, but now they seem so commonplace. Ha Ha Ha

Is it just me or are there a lot of nitpicky sonsabitches on here anymore?

I do agree that they oughtta run and drive though.

Isn't building what you like the whole point?
The guy is now obsessed with Roth type cars, more power to him.
I hope he builds dozens, if that is his thing.

    regards,
    DJ

Wowza!!! It's awesome, great to see people keepin' the Roth Tradition alive, can't wait to se it finished and a magazine spread to do it justice!
I'd love to see someone here in the UK build something like that and then DRIVE/ USE / ABUSE it!

Right on Gus!! Dave is a wildly creative and talented guy and should not be criticized for his off the wall thinking. That is the kind thinking that started hot rodding in the first place. Otherwise we would all be driving stock cars. Some guys are leaders and others are just complainers.

    Thanks, Sean

  27. It's interesting and I appreciate the craftsmanship, but right now it doesn't hit me like "Wow, I gotta have/make/buy/steal/copy/clone one of those." It's not that I don't appreciate *different* designs -- I really do like different. Not different just to be different, but different that is cool. I thought Lunar Lander and that recent El Camino project were awesome from the get-go, still think so, and would someday like to try something like that.

Take a look at some of the residential skylight windows that are availible. Many of them are a huge, plexiglass bubble, just like the top of this car. I don't know where this one was sourced from, but I know you can get a big plastic bubble thru some of the better home suppliers.

I love it, I think the shapes and designs are really inspired. What a reaction you'd get driving it around. I suppose I could understand if someone didn't like it (to each their own) but to rag on the guy who built it? That's gay.

it was custom made. don't remember the name of the place but i think it's the same guys Moriarty used. i'm sure one of the other guys remembers where it was made exactly.
