I’ve been wondering about doing this, but with a steel skin in a smaller coupe. I probably wouldn’t have the curves on the edges, so some side upholstery panels. But I would do it so the tin panel could be painted, not upholstered. Are you guys putting any sound deadening material between the layers?
Like I mentioned Cole Foster did his AD pickup in steel, he told me he would never do it again. There is a guy on our AD page making head liners out of molded ABS, I would go this route in a small coupe
Awesome! I am planning on doing the same concept for my coupe's headliner. There are a few really great YouTube vids on surface prep and such.
Prep for mine was a coat of single stage acrylic, couple coats of mold release wax and spray on PVA. Cured 'gl*** shell popped right off.
I have done this in the past with the one-piece headlines found in newer style vehicles. Just trim it to fit.
Turning out cool! I have another question about the center of gravity on the rotisserie, how far up from the bottom of the body is the pivot tube? It would be helpful to have a starting point for mounting mine. Thanks.
Here it is with centerstrip bonded to both sides just need to install 1/4" foam on both sides to make it seamless
As fun as fibergl*** is to work with I'm liking the abs plastic idea. How's it work? Line a flat sheet up, heat it, press into place with some supports and let it cure ? Would need to layout and transfer attachment points but that's not too bad. The sheet would need to be larger than the roof to flex up for shape and the pillars are likely in the way. There may be enough room to get it in 1 shot.
Years ago (20+) our local interior hot shot did my bosses interior panels in ABS then they sprayed them in a smoothish bedliner for his A roadster. Turned out super cool and durable, you could just wipe em down..
