Hot Rods How many are running a stick?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by JimSibley, Jun 6, 2022.

  1. As I get older I realize I need at least one automatic when I do something stupid and wrench my back. Seeing as I don't own an O/T vehicle, 2 are automatic (soon to be one, the '41 p/u is going to a manual).

3 speed, with the cheap-O Indy floor shifter,no sink in first*,It's what I built my bobtailed 28A with in 1959,an still works for me. Nope no 'Granny Tranny'. All hotrods I built after were std. also ,,except the last two T-buckets I helped with ,not my rods,so not my idea.
My 28A got a new steering wheel an column some years back, but shifter still the same. Sorry about the dirt on rug,but I drive it a lot . Dash28bobtail.jpg

That's quite harsh. I would say that automatics are for those of us that lack dexterity and coordination.

All my old stuff was stick or tree up till now, but my shoebox cane with an automatic in it. I've considered throwing a manual in, but I have difficulty tearing apart a car that's done. Maybe next time.

I must admit having an automatic in a slow cruising custom isn't so bad anyways. Bothers me less than I thought it would.

And as for YOU Mark, lol, we can line up ladies and so whose is finer anytime you want! Girl that!

This is now in my shop and under construction. Friend started it almost 40 years ago and stalled. He willed it to me when he died.

  21. Here's a noodle bender, would you consider a column shift at "hot rod".

  24. Some might still think them "old lady cars". Personally I like them, all the running cars are column shift with the in construction '28 being the only floor shift (for now, at least 2 others will be floor shift in the future).

  28. yes there are “new school” muncies! Look up https://www.autogear.net/motorsports/ they make an m22 style box in a wide ratio. That what i have in the vette. You can buy individual parts all the way to a whole new gear box.

I think Mark will win this one! Here is my one and only with a top loader 4 speed from a 66 mustang with a Jeep top shift conversion on it.
