I have a chance to buy a empty 37 Lasalle trans case. I have a very nice 50 olds 3 speed, will the complete 50 guts fit into the 37 case?

Very common swap in days gone by.
Do a search, it's been covered before

i believe its the other way around , correct me if im wrong but it was lasalle guts into a olds case to eliminate the lasalle long tailshaft , the lasalle shifter may work on the olds case as well ..

Very common to use a 50 olds tail shaft on the lasalle boxes.

The cluster gear shaft is larger on th '50 Olds. '37 case needs to be bored for the larger shaft.

    Chev38 is correct.
To swap all the later gears into the '37 case it will require some machine work.
But, the easiest way is to start with a complete '37 transmission and swap just the clutch shaft, tail shaft and tail housing, no machine work necessary.
Either way you will need more than just an empty '37 case to make the swap.

I've only gone through a dozen or so LaSalle and Olds transmissions and only three of this specific conversion so am no expert.

I took the easy route with this one,
But have another with the case opened up for the later cluster if I ever get around to it.

    Edit:
When I did this one it felt like I was taking two $800 transmissions to make one $1200 transmission..

  9. Tony, if you need any real info about what you want to do, contact " SHEP" (Mark Shepard ) a friend of mine from Connecticut. He is my age, and has done several Cadillac / Lasalle conversions. tell him that you got his info from me. 1-860-884-6833. that is his cell phone number which he uses in his shop from *9:00 AM until around 5:00 PM. Shep is a great person, a fantastic machinist, and will not steer you wrong. nick.
