Technical GMC Hydramatic repair shop options?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by WildWilly68, Jun 10, 2022.

  1. Hey all, long time since I’ve posted but I’m trying to help out my dad. He has a 54 GMC truck with the stock hydramatic in need of a rebuild. We are in central Illinois and are looking to find a reputable shop, he has found Cl***ic Hydramatic in Livonia, MI, but can’t find any online reviews of their work. Does anyone have any experience with this company or can recommend someone else maybe Chicago/St Louis/Indy area? We have it crated and ready to ship there but I think he wants to make sure they are reputable. Thanks in advance, hopefully I’ll be able to contribute something HAMB worthy again soon.

We can rebuld it. We specialize in vintage transmission restoration. You can visit our website @ procarhotrods.com and check out the vintage trans page for photos. The website is still a work in progress.

We are in a Chicago suburb, and have been in business for 40 years and only repair and maintain vintage cars.

We still have a limited supply of NOS single and dual range Hydramatic cork/friction clutch plates and wavy steel plates in stock, which are not available any more and the aftermarket clutch plates, which are a different design and modern materials, can create very harsh shifts.

General prices to restore your transmission are in the $2500.00-$3000.00 range, depending on condition and whats needed.

The downside is, turn around time can be 1-2 of months.

Dont try to E-Mail me through the website, as I am an old guy and cant figure out how to retrieve the messages.

Justp***inthru Thanks for your reply, I'm sure many people will be glad you posted. I was friends with Vinnie Tarantola owner of Vitar Hydros and back then it was no problem getting a hydro fixed. Now most shops don't even know what they are. Good info on your site.
