Whenever I want to "Rip" through a bunch of gears I take out one of the other toys. Syncros? We don't need no stink'in Syncros!

“Ok, kiddo here’s the deal; if you want your own phone, first you have to learn to drive stick.”

“OK, dad, I’m parking my bike. When do we start?”

“Ahm… ten years from now. Bring your helmet.”

(no, I do not yet take him for rides in it, but he likes to start it)

I grew up when every guy that got a car with an automatic started looking for the stuff to change it over. The last I knew Toyota and Jeep were the only new pickup offered with a manual. A stick shift is a theft deterrent

Love big trucks !!! I lived in Peru for a couple years back in the 50's, and the company hauled stuff with Mack B-81 tractors which had a 5-spd main, a 3-spd brownie, and a Hi-Lo. I used to sneak rides from the mountains (8,500') to the coast. What a thrill !!

I wanted to stay with the stock column shift and rear, but after the engine rebuild/improvements...

Got my license in 1964 and to this day have never owned a car or truck with an automatic transmission...Same for my current wife...

  16. I think tri-five Chevys are supposed to have a 4 speed in them aren't they? I put a Muncie in the 56 I built. But I sold it last year.

  17. How about two out of three?! The coupe and roadster are 5-speeds, but the 40 Pickup is an automatic. I could say that it’s for the wife to drive but I would not be telling the whole truth. If for whatever reason shifting was or is no longer possible, at least I would have one hot rod that I built to drive.
But, regardless, I still go by the old adage, “real hot rods have 3 pedals…” ……

Well...Jerry did build the Ole Hotrod I acquired for his wife...:D...I wonder if she ever got to drive it...I do wear a funny hat and sunglasses...but I am unmistakably not a girl...so at the end of the day it's a dirty job but someone's gotta do it...and at my age with my not so great back I'm kinda happy with it...Other thing is I don't really yap about that aspect of it as its off topic...

I'm curious from those in the know if by the early 60s if automatics were making their way into Hotrods and even more so the Drag Scene...I mean I get that the so called "Traditional" that Hambers rave about was generally the pre and post WWll into the 50s period but was the tide turning towards the latter part of the Hamb timeframe? Not to hijack...Just curious...since it's been mentioned here in a typically negative way...

In my double stick Hotrod I have a what looks to be a 3 pedaller but alas it is not...

3 pedals & 5 gears. A man too lazy to change gear shouldn't be on the road. IMG-20210412-WA0015.jpg

Sports cars just have to have a stick, especially with a V8 in them:
