Tires continue to be a problem. I need another pair of 700/18 Excelsior's and they're saying Sept or Oct. This supply thing is a pain in the ****. Last set I got I ordered in March and got in Oct. Gotta be thinking ahead.
I've got the same problem. I ordered a full set back in Feb and the 5.00 x 16 have arrived but the 7.50 x 16 were supposed to be in the container arriving mid May but they never made it. My car will be finished in a couple of months and it looks like I will have to "make do" with a set of Firestones. Australian Street Rod Federation will not accept Firestones on their Street Rod Rego system so you have to go with Excelsior if you want traditional looking tires. The Excelsiors are not cheap though, over $2400 for a set of 5.00 and 7.50 in 16 inch size.
"The Excelsiors are not cheap though, over $2400 for a set of 5.00 and 7.50 in 16 inch size." !!!!!!!!!!
Is that $2400 Australian? Which would be $1600 more or less US-still not cheap, not even reasonable, but there you are.
ive never owned a set but a close friend of mine has had two sets and a trip to Bonneville and back and they were about done. no thanks...
Pretty sure the auburns are in bias ply sizes? yup just checked plenty of review threads on them Here. Seem to be just as good as an excelsior
Highly recommend the Diamondback Auburn Deluxe tires. Tubeless radials with the vintage look. They come in the bias ply sizes. Blackwall and whitewall. I have them on my Coupe and they look great, are round and smooth.
Yeah, in that case screw period correctness, that is just insanity. ******s and blow are a better investment at that point.
I have a friend with around 40,000 on his Excelsior's. He recently replaced the fronts and I think is now doing the rears.
There are some Evil off topic Electric vehicle tires "Only"that look like Excelsior's, $120ish , I have used them on one of my Deuce. I believe these where Michelin No white wall that im aware of thoe
I think that is short-sighted. The various materials suppliers would be happy to sell their products. Can they get them to market? Are they stuck in a shipping container off Long Beach? Can the manufacturer get what's needed and then get employees to make what they sell? Can what's made be distributed and shipped? It you priced the cost at A+B+C+D+E and now each of those is higher plus added costs X+Y+Z, can you sell what you have at a profit? It is so easy to blame one company, or government, for the problem, but we've got world-wide economic factors, wars, shortages and weather to contend with and it's just not that simple.
The messed up part is where they took orders knowing a lot was backordered, then proceeded to raise the prices 50-100 dollars on peoples tires that were paid for. Then they said they would tell you about how much more you owe. Its much better to find someone locally (lucky for us in So-cal) another supplier that may have them in stock and you go and buy them in person. But even then it been catching up to these guys because their supplier is drying up too. Im seeing a lot - "my dog had those tires and he chewed them up and spat them out, they are no good.... comments." Or "try this tire it works on my unique hotrod, but I wont give you any more info that that, here's a pretty picture" Names, suppliers and part numbers please. Im looking into the DB tires for another car, but if you are dead set on Excelsior's, get put on the waiting list. Or find some that happens to have a set. You wont be happen if you don't get what you want, usually.
If a company has this as a business model, you have to wonder about the integrity with which they build their tires that you count on to keep you safe.
