Watching a rerun of Night Gallery, and it had a 12 passenger Chevy sedan at the beginning. So surfed a little bit and found a picture of a 12 passenger wagon: Here's the picture of the wagon, a Stagecoach I think it was called. Couldn't find a picture of a sedan, but hey I'm computer illiterate. I could picture one of these with a 409, 4 speed, and lowered. Call me crazy???
those were called airporters or also airport limos... I wonder how many driveshaft carrier bearings these had?
So I'm not the only one who's crazy! That picture certainly shows someone else has preserved one. Can't you all just picture one with airbags, which btw, were factory options in 58 and 59. I don't know when they were discontinued, so HAMB friendly.
Must not have been too much work to build them. GM wasp-waste frame, just extend the center part. I bet you probably don't want to open all of the doors at once however. Might sag in the middle...
The roof doubled as a landing strip. Probably just the one bearing, but you had insert the drive shaft from 20 ft. away.
My high school had an 8 door (on each side), yellow, Checker Airporter (we called the Banana) to take our soccer team to games. Anyhow... I hot wired it one day and took a bunch of buddies to the nearby Burgerville for lunch. After our mid-day meal, when we were just out of sight of the school my "fares" jumped out and I returned the "borrowed" lunch wagon and took the penalty that ensued. Don't do the crime of you cant so the time.
Did not notice that. Safety I suppose. Keeps people from getting out on the traffic side. Well that's my guess anyway...
