First off, thanks for all the positive posts to my son on the thread about supporting a soldier that I posted. My son asked me to thank all of you! Second, I got a call from him today! Surprise, Surprise because I KNOW they don't give phone priveliges in boot camp. It turns out he got a staff infection from a cut in his left elbow during M-16 qualifications. Being right handed, as most of you know, his elbow was on the ground for prone position shooting. It was raining off an on both those days and it got infected. Now his left fore arm looks like Popeye's! At any rate, he missed training today because the medic sent him to the hospital for anti-biotics, so hopefully he will be back in the training saddle by Sunday. If he misses only two days he might not have to delay his training. He is being a real trooper about it all and hopes to get back with his company asap. Again, thanks millions guys and gals.
Staph infections can be fast and nasty,so it's really good they got him out of that environment and treated. I hope he recovers soon and pray for his safety and that of his fellow soldiers.
As my youngest just got out of the Marines, I know what you are going through. I wish you and him the best of luck in the future.
I just got out of the Air Force in March. OLDSGUY and REJ thank you to your sons and thank you for supporting him through all of this. My parents were pretty worried about me when I was in too. It takes some strong individuals to enlist and serve with everything going on in the world today!
How well I remember shooting at them Commie targets. I bet the guys don't envision taking out the Red Army anymore. In fact the Soviet Union was probably gone by the time they were born. Yikes!
My son should be leaving Iraq in a few weeks. We should all support our troops. Things are a mess all over.
I know the feeling as well. My oldest son, 20 yrs. has just started his Basic Training in Ft. Jackson, SC. I check the mail box daily for a word from him. He has called a couple of times. Your right phone privliges are hard to come by while they are in basic. Looking forward to graduation day so we can go and see him. Where is your son doing his Basic Training?
I live close to the Fort ... in fact I can hear the bigger explosives when they go off ... It has rained a LOT here in the past week ... ( Ernesto rain ) but yesterday and today are dry and in the 80's ... A friend of mine is a drill instructor ... and a LOT of good kids go thru Fort Jackson. I really appreciate their dedication and service ... so we can live in this country ...
I been mentioning him twice a day sometimes three, by name (Jesse) along with all the troops, so it's jesse and all our boys and girls.
Make sure when he goes to Iraq not to kill anyone. They are putting enlisted people in jail now, and giving them the death penalty for doing their job. I thought being in the Infantry was a death penalty Lo-life, retired 93, Panama, Grenada, Iraq 1 --------- "Kill everyone, and let God sort them out" -- Crusades
