Event Coverage Roll call for the Hot Rod Reunion

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Lloyd's paint & glass, May 16, 2022.

  1. This 34 Plymouth was parked beside the area I was seated at .
The engine was a 331 Hemi,,,,,,and it was the smoothest sounding engine I have ever heard .
No rumble or nothing,,,,just a smooth sounding,,,perfect built engine,,,as clean sounding as any late model new engine with full exhaust out the back .
But,,,,,with plenty of power at the touch of the pedal .
Very impressive,,,,,guy said it was a stock rebuild with an overbore and stock cam .

Was a lot of nice cars there. The weather ended up being nice. The racing was good also 03B4E889-424B-483B-8BF3-C934A1B5D2BE.jpeg 6A7CF0F3-FD41-4E17-BA0C-EA5A52117FE9.jpeg

  10. I've been to all, but about 3 or 4 BG Reunions.
    Best weather EVER!
Photos above include many of the Top 50 award winners.
I left after they introduced the top 50, last night. I can only stand so much fun in one, three day event.

  11. I agree Phil, this was my favorite year ever.

No its not, you cant have a points meet when your base is on the west coast and expect them to take off and travel. Its a REUNION, for which they have racing included in the program. BTW Funnycar and Fuel Altereds are invite so no points

They were a little pricey there. BTW are these 12” wide slots really bringing $1200.00? 9D6AC56C-32D7-4E10-9322-30C861EADEDD.jpeg 282BAF80-2FE4-4DE0-A95A-8092C713C3CE.jpeg

Yeah, the count was definitely down. It cost me $200.00 in gas driving my’40 each way and I’m only 1 state away. I was chatting with some of the Fuel Altered guys at breakfast Saturday. They said that some were upset with the NHRA , for a few reasons, something about some guys getting paid tow money, but others weren’t getting anything. They also mentioned the “It’s not a race” thing. I was a little disappointed that several of the Fuel cars weren’t there, but honestly, I don’t consider those “nostalgia” cars. While I like watching fuel cars run. I’ve never considered most of them correct for this meet anyway. I’m perfectly content watching the regular classes run and seeing the cackle cars. It would be great if there were more of the Fuel Altereds though! I’ve been to almost all of these shows including the first one and it was definitely down quite a bit on race entries, swap vendors and show cars/spectators, but it was still a great event! I’ve been hearing rumors though, that this may have been the last one. I hope not, but I can certainly see why many didn’t come. This trip, it cost us $500.00 gas and food round trip, $500.00 hotel and food while we were there and $150.00 for the show entry for the weekend. And we drove home Saturday night instead of staying like we originally planned on to save some money.

Simply put, The fuel cars went to NHRA with a proposal (and the extra funds to pay for it) it was in discussion for a couple years, but lost steam when Covid hit, but now since we are basically thru that era, it was brought back up again. Again everybody is struggling to get back to normal which includes the Museum and BG, So they did not to make the format change and told the racers NO, Go with what is known to work. well it hurt the racers feelings and they found another venue for their program--- which I have no problem with them doing that, but the way they did it with bashing the event calling for a boycott and MF'g NHRA, does nobody any good. The success of any event can only be determined by who shows the following year to the same event. IF the spectator count remains the same, then nobody cared if there were a full field of Fuel cars, if the count is low, then they screwed up and will have to make changes. Same goes for the alternative event in St.Louis. Weather was brutal at both events and BG had limited time to get it all in, where as St.Louis they ran at night after changing the format to 1/8 mile Chicago style and run in the evening. As a family man bringing the wife and kids, both get cranky from being there all day in the sun, and then by 6pm they are done and want to go home/eat /bed. So far no point was proven and the spectators were the losers.
What made it silly was the proposed format where the 4th round of qualifying would be used at 1st round of elimination. As it turned out, the BG fuel teams only got 2 hits at the tree so that would mean 4 rounds on Sat, which is hard to do --- even harder with the heat and humidity at the track

  22. This IS a points meet for top fuel. They only have 4 points events in that class. Normally there are a handfull of west coast rails making the trip. Points is points. The no-shows are sacrificing a shot at 25% of thepossible points.

really don’t want to get into a pissing match. It’s a shame the boycott happened as it sucks for the fans.

glad it was a great show. Hope to see y’all next year.

I checked, you are correct, however, previous years teams were allowed one throwaway race so that the well financed teams could not take an advantage in points by being able to travel. as it gave the close to home teams a fighting chance

  25. Guess what time it is! That's right! It's reunion time! I'm staying at the courtyard Marriott as usual, see you hoodlums there!
