As far as I'm concerned your Vette is cooler than a Ferrari and you won't have to make a deal with the devil for your soul or sell blood once a week to drive a Ferrari! HRP

My better half is not that much into my truck, but she will tell you in a heartbeat that she will inherit her family 60 Lincoln, (Her sister gets the 46 Continental) I will have to clean out the garage to make room for that boat, as far as I know it is the largest American car ever produced and unibody to boot. It is a convertible her father bought in 1962,
was the family car through 1980 at least.

built this '50 Chevy PU in the 90's for my wife - sold my, special to me, '47 Ford Coupe to make room in the garage for project - it was a project that another guy lost interest in - had GMC sheet metal on front but, seller offered to put the Chevy on it - shortly before this I bought another project that someone lost motivation for - '39 Chevy PU - got about 3/4 done and finally put seats in and realized the small cab was not going to work - sold it to guy on East Coast - '50 had MoPar torsion bar frontend, new high end 350, 4 speed automatic, 8" Ford rearend and much more - 3rd Annual Larry Annear Memorial Cruise 035.jpg - She picked color (Periwinkle) from a big box of crayons - it was sold a few years ago when we did a major downsizing of all our stuff

Picked this up for my wife late last year. This photo is when we brought it home. Working hard trying to get it wrapped up by end of the year. I will add a build thread at some point soon.

My wife wanted a Scout, so we bought one 5 years ago or so. I fixed it up and she drives it all the time. It's OT, but it's a 4 speed, and the ***le is in her name. She drives the 'Vair quite a bit too, she isn't really into cars, and hates going to events. I guess she just likes the wind in her hair...

My father-in-law was guilty of buying cars & a motorcycle for his wife on her Birthday, she never did ride that motorcycle but she did take to the K code HIPO Mustang., she loved the 4 speed transmission.

As far as Brenda, the wagon is hers and the ***le is in her name, I do get to drive the car occasionally, she also lets me pay the insurance bill when I come's due. HRP

My wife likes riding around in our hot rods. She has driven a few of them over the years, some she even enjoyed driving occasionally. That said, she is very picky about the car she drives, over 46 years, there have only been about 6 or 8 cars total, that she considers "her cars". The one she drives now has been her car for the last 16 years, and it is way off topic. She does like those modern convinces the modern cars have, that not many HAMB friendly cars can carry and hide well.

When it comes time for her next car, we will do the same thing we have done for the last 4 cars. Let her pick one out that she likes and buy it. Building something for her takes too long, then when its done, one little thing she doesn't like means she won't drive it, even if that one thing was changed. If the vehicle she likes gets wore out, she will drive it to its death bed before she reluctantly gives it up for whatever is her next vehicle.

I did built a truck she liked according to the specs she wanted. She picked the color, and pretty much everything for the truck, it was even ***led in her name. In the 4 years we owned it, she drove it about 10 times, and she was the one that suggested it be sold to fund the next vehicle.

The current arrangement concerning "her car" works out great. It took several cars, early in our relationship, before I got that understanding.

Some years ago my wife expressed an interest in having her own old hobby car so I offered, you pick it out and we'll see how it all turns out. She chose a restored cl***ic 51 Buick RoadMaster sedan, a beautiful cl***ic it was. She kept it polished, enjoyed the travel, shows, the people, that car received a lot of attention at shows, always a trophy, she was happy. we had some fun together for 5 years. The mechanical side was a nightmare, solid car, great paint, chrome, stainless, interior, but engine was a spray can rebuild, worn out, I fixed the dynaflow, leaked badly, replaced the entire brake system and I grew tired of working on it, always something, it was a short run car, the car need a better mechanic than me. The parts to rebuild the straight 8 were outrageous and my thought was to make it a Restomod, modern driveline, brakes, AC, suspension all the amenities of a new car, no small project at this time in my life. I/we thought about the work, money involved and we sold the car. The pic is the 2 of us at a show, around 2015, my 51 Merc, her 51 Buick. It was an experience dealing with a cl***ic car, way more expensive to keep something original than a hot rod IMO. Our51'smy mercher buick.jpg

Having a wife/girlfriend that likes old cars is a two edged sword, in my case I am happy that my wife enjoys the old cars as much as I do, I have a lot of friends that their wives could care less and the only time I see some of them is when we have our annual Christmas dinner and then some won't even ride in their husbands hot rod or custom. Hello,

I am a lucky, as I found someone who trusts me with all things hot rods, sporty cars, SUV and anything that moves on wheels. She even loved hanging onto me as we whisked away for a morning 40 mile Harley Sportster ride to a piping hot breakfast overlooking the ocean in So Cal. So, from that early conversation about cars and things that move, she was a keeper since 1966.

But, I did not build a specific hot rod for her. We bought a project that we needed for ourselves and our lifestyle. Through thick and thin, got it repaired and running safely over several months, so she could drive it by herself without me having to worry about her. Since I could not do any more, we got some professional help and it made all of the drama well worth the effort.

The smile on her face when she was driving around with me in the p***enger seat was priceless. Then, she would tell me of encounters on the streets with other guys wanting her phone number, etc. We would both laugh and continue with our road trip(s).

The 1940 Ford Sedan Delivery was similar in looks to my first Flathead 40 Ford Sedan Delivery. Except for the fact that this looked finished. But, it was in need of some serious repair and replace work on the original owner’s build. My wife loved the Sedan Delivery, the way it sat, the comfortable seats, the instant power from the 327 and the cold A/C. After we got the suspension, steering, brakes and other items replaced and repaired, it was now “her” car.

In most cases, the two cars we had were a 1962 Corvair and the 327 powered Sedan Delivery, accessible for both of us. She chose the sedan delivery most of the time and I was slogging around in the 62 Corvair, wishing it had a supercharged motor sitting in the rear motor compartment.

For the constant effort and resulting adventures together, it was well worth living the So Cal coastal lifestyle all of these years. It has led us to a very low key life and relaxing way to see the world, family included... YRMV

Back when I was 18 a girlfriend wanted a hot rod so I dolled up a '55 Chevy I bought for her.
Technically not a build...took a decent driver and added wheels and chrome stuff.
    She loved it.
Then came the strong hints of marriage.
    Goodbye girl and car.

I met my wife in law school. Her whole family is all military and both her dad and stepdad were big Harley guys. Her being raised around it, she got her motorcycle license and continued to ride. When we met, I had an absolutely hammered 63 Fairlane I was driving 600+ miles a week to my clerk job, and she had a newer car and a nice new Sportster. After dating a while, she suggested I get a bike so we could ride together, which I did. Then not long after that, when coming home from the Detroit Autorama, she mentioned that she would sort of like a car. I said OK, go find one you like, buy it, and we'll build it. NO 4 doors, and NO wagons. She found a super decent 2 door hardtop 59 Edsel Ranger out in PA that was a non-running project and we scooped that up. I was cracking on it for a while before I got sidetracked with my Oldsmobiles. I'll get back on it eventually.

  24. I’ve built several OTs for the wife. I buy em wrecked and fix em.
Currently building a 56 Chevy wagon for her.
