As the discussion is around conversions, I recall back in the 70’s Crane made a conversion, anyone else remember that? Was supposed to be like sliced bread.

A magneto is good enough for me on an airplane so on a car it should be ok. :)

Rewinding coils, new armatures and so on..Magnetos have a place and a good one is quite reliable..But on a moderate street engine one without advance system offers no advange over a points distributer. My opinion from my experience...

Maybe. Not sure. A friends of my dad used them to replace points in tractors (he had a repair shop). and swore by the crane. He also did rounds round at Stockton speedway

    Hello Vetteson

Take a peak at the board 8n the distributor and find the main power resistor it's usually the first component coming of the lead wire to the board and it's usually a little black barrel set horizontal on the board . Now take your phone's camera and snap a picture of that power resistor then zoom in the image you just shot and look for hairline cracks in the resistor they can look like little lightening bolts . Depending on your sdering prowess snip out the resistor and replace it with a new one from your local electronics shop or industrial supply house also carry electronic components or just replace the distributor . I've chosen to run with dual point distributors they have adequate for the street and I know it's going to be throwing out a longer spark than a lot of the electronic units . Some do and some don't . Any questions you can reply back to me or start a conversation or ...
