It's good to see that interspersed with the complainers are clear thinkers
who understand that times and people change. Often I read on the H.A.M.B.
that we need to encourage the young guys and chicks to get involved in rodding
and racing. One of the easiest and cheapest ways for them to do that is to pick
up a Fox body (79-93) Mustang, the '57 Chevy of the younger generation. There
are parts galore available, they're lightweight and American muscle. You might
not believe how many kids have no interest in old (as opposed to older) cars.
No, these kids (and oldsters, too) won't be welcome at the H.A.M.B. but who
knows, maybe they'll make the leap to a '65 Impala or a '55 Ford someday.

There was a time when "car shows" featured antique and classic rides. Maybe
a boattail Auburn speedster or a coffin nosed Cord. You'd see brass age Fords
and more stock Model A's than you could shake a stick at. I can only imagine
how the owners and organizers felt in the mid '70s when rodders (hot and street)
and musclecar gearheads started rolling in.

Hunnert Car Pile Up, Morris Illinois, 2009. A fellow pulls up in an early Valiant,
completely stock, really nice looking car. After 2-3 hours of easing up in line
he gets to the entance of the park only to be told by some wiseass punk that
his car was too stock to get in. "Go get some pinstriping and bring it back". I
wanted to clock that smirky twerp and it wasn't even my car! Damn near any
other type of gathering and the guy would have been welcome.

    BigDogSS and NoelC like this.
  3. As someone noted before, it seems to me the overall interest in any car is shrinking with the younger kids. That is only based on my children and their friends. But when I do take one of the cars out for a drive or a C&C, '33 Ford and '58 Lotus, it's the guys and girls in their 20s that ask all of the questions and are genuinely interested. When I left a C&C a few weeks ago, I glanced back to the cars and there were at least 6 people recording with their cameras. I thought, now these people may share with their friends and maybe we just added a few more car fans, old, new, quirky, or fast. At least nobody had an EV:)

Late to this thread. What guaranty is there that if there were only vehicles you like that they wouldn't be done up to what trending today as opposed to what's normal here on this site?

One day there will be no shows, I drove my Studebaker to a local cruise in last week and it has really gotten smaller over the years and the other night I saw why. It is in a local furniture store parking lot and there were six local worthless POS riding wheelie u and down the rows on dirt bikes. They finally moved on. The new USA !
