Saved a whole bunch of '60s & earlier photographic related. No interest in it; bought it because it was garage sale/ thrift shop priced & in from very good to unused condition. Hesitant to list this on the HAMB - any suggestions ?
When you go through the HAMB cl***ifieds you'll see many items that languish there. Check responses to many of them and all you see is "BTTT", in other words, no sales. I found out quickly that many camera shops, even those that say they are looking for used equipment, offer next to nothing. Example; I went to a shop near a major high school with a photography cl***. Apparently the students are given the recomendation to visit this particular shop for deals on supplies and used equipment. The shop owner offered me the grand sum of $25.00 for three Canon 35mm slr bodies, three basic (50mm?) lenses, a 28 mm wide angle, a 80-210 zoom, a 300mm telephoto lens, and ***orted filters plus one camera bag. All used religiously but always cared for. Other shops had no interest in them at all. I finally sold the package on craigslist to a local buyer. If you think there's value there, beat the bushes for a camera expert or a dealer of antique & cl***ic photo equipment. Plus, try to do it locally. Many firms that advertise in the backs of magazines can't be bothered with emails and phone calls get you an answering machine.
Some of the old lenses fit todays digital cameras and can command good prices. Cannon EOS lenses work great on their current cameras. Your stuff looks much earlier and would interest a collector.
Good luck with your camera find , I have always grabbed old cameras ...just because.? I thought they looked cool , well after moving them hundreds of times...recleaning them over and over ...even offering the collection for sale..cheap. A couple weeks ago I moved the boxes of cameras for the last time, 50+ cameras, my brother has a old movie? camera that he acquired , it's old and it's cool , he has had people look at it saying that it's very rare...worth lots of money...only a couple of others known to exist ,he was even contacted by producers of the TV sho w "Pawn Stars" after they saw it in some publication that featured his shop and it was in the back ground , they asked if it was for sale and they wanted to fly him and his camera to Las Vegas to be on the show and that they would purchase it after a price was settled.....never happened it still sits in his ba*****t. Oh ya my collection went into a guy's pick up ....hope he enjoys them ...he got them for free.
The problem with old cameras is the availability of film. A lot of sizes are obsolete anymore. Digital destroyed the film industry.
I sold a high quality Cannon 35mm SLR and several lenses..Not much interest and low offers .Old lenses look ok but can get mold inside...And also sold a 10 year old digital SLR Cannon Rebel...Again, low offers, some new cell phones have take better photos...
I sold what was once $5,000 worth of Canon cameras & lenses, Vivatar flashes etc for $200, and was happy to get that
I have a Canon digital SLR and I’ve used the lenses from an EOS film camera with no issues. My iPhone takes good general purpose photos without all the bulk of the Canon but can’t come close on telephoto or wide field photos.
