Here’s my chassis. American stamping rails assembly work by Okie Joe. 32 heavy axle dropped and drilled. Buick 45 fin drums. Narrowed 58 9 inch with 3.50 gear. Was being built for a 331 Hemi with a 6~71 but the Cammer top loader will takes its place.
Your skinny rear tires should help the 28 spline axles survive for a awhile. Any kind of sticky drag style tire then I would have a AAA membership.
Outstanding score! Further reminder you never know what you'll end up finding through friendly conversation. There's still good stuff yet to be found.
I always thought those engines were very cool, congratulations on a great score ! It always makes me smile when a Ford engine, is put into an older Ford car such as the model A.
Amazing Find!!! Kinda curious if you got into it "right"? I've told this story before... Our local (Binghamton NY) legend was about an engine rather than a car. In the mid '60s, a local Ford Dealer parts dept. guy "Bud" and his partner were drag racing a '33 Ford 5 window with a 427 side oiler, 4 spd. with reasonable success. Somehow, in the late '60s, Bud managed to buy a "crate" 427 SOHC engine through the dealership he worked for, and they had planned to put into the coupe, but soon afterwards, Bud's partner got killed...and he lost all interest. EVERYBODY locally wanted/tried to buy the coupe and engine! He finally did sell the coupe in the '70s to a friend of mine (who still owns it), but he would never sell that SOHC. After Bud had passed, another buddy of mine helped his widow sell the SOHC...and all he'll say is, it went for over 50K and went to the West Coast.
Now u have to time the cams with that 7 foot chain…. Fun day? Know everyone loves stick trans but I think an auto, even 2 speed power glide would satisfy. Harder to control with all that power in light car & would be easier on rest of drive train.. Is this a drag car, driver, or tow to shows? What is life of a SOHC in regular service? my 2 cents worth
I have been offered that and more. Didn’t get it cheap but it was a deal. Came with a Alston chassis and a 65 falcon with a mustang fastback roof installed. Drag car project
A rare Pegasus, bred from a horse and a bird. Great find on the engine, a friend of mine built and raced Cammers from '68 to '80, still has a few.
Man!!! I am jealous!!! Every time I find something like that,, I am either broke, or the item is junk!!! Congrats on such a awesome find!!
Unfortunately, the Holman Moody Challenger fastbacks were 1st generation Falcons...were kind goofy looking...and not as cool looking as the OPs purchase.
It’s been upgraded to 31 spline. It won’t hook so I don’t see a problem. It’s all about the head affect.
Wow what a find & buy…. Looking forward to seeing this build completed. & what r u going to do with the falcon? Enjoy both
Put a big block Chevy in the falcon if you want to go fast! Ok, I’ll give you $250.00 for the cammer for my Malibu project.
Still amazing that folks are discovering these “barn” finds in this day and age. Good to see that the motor has lived another day.
View attachment 5443016 Don, I know you're putting the Cammer in your coupe, but imagine it in your Falcon. Just had to photoshop this. Eli
