How big are the lines to the filter? Byp*** filters use small lines, usually around 1/8" ID. Full flow filters use large lines, usually about 1/2" ID.

You can get away without a byp*** filter....they were optional for many years on many cars. If no one is going to put more than 50k miles on it, the engine will never wear out, without the filter.

Full pressure didn’t show up until 1960 I believe.

Nice thing about byp*** style you can put them anywhere. Just change your oil more often. I drive less than 1500 miles per year in 2 of our cars so they get a change once a year no matter the milage.

  6. The byp*** system could be considered better than none but if it’s a low miler then couldn’t hurt not running it.
It only filters a small percentage of the flow so if something were to let go it wouldn’t save much, plus it filters at the end of the system so doesn’t really do f - all.
A beehive filter mounted on the firewall is the go if you decide to keep it,

The norm in the 50's was to change oil every thousand miles. My dad pretty well stuck to that up into the mid 60's. Even on road trips he stopped and had the oil changed when he hit the mileage or got to the destination.
