    I got this today in my shop email. WOW

    This form was submitted: Sep 03 2006 / 06:39:53
    by a visitor with this IP Address:

    FirstLastName = Hamad
    Last = Al Khalifa
    phone = 00973 36699991
    Email =
    hamadk@mac.com
    Message = To whom it may concern,

    This is Hamad Al Khalifa from the country of Bahrain. I am a sole entrepreneur who is in the process of opening up a facility similar to yours in my country. This project is one of a kind in the region. Sell, restore, paint, and upholstery of cl***ic cars. The reason for me to contact you would be that I am in the process of looking for talent, employees for the US with expertise in the industry. I am looking for 3 people who know the following:

    Excellent body shop and paint work / the plan is to have the best equipment + knowledge in the region (Painter / Artist)
    Best upholstery work in the region as well (Upholstery worker)
    Mechanical Engineer (Engine building + Automotive mechanic)

    Since I am facing difficulty with this, and your company might have similar people on hand or applications, we can come up with a deal, where your company gets a profit say for the referral ? Let me know if interest is seen here.

    Job openings will offer a very good pay (no taxes since Bahrain does not have any income taxes) and also housing will be offered. The country is an island that is expanding and has attracted a lot of foreigners recently due to the expand of economy, especially with the Bahrain International Circuit built for the Formula one and more. (

    I cant imagine this is real

    Pretty damn sketchy. Still, think it would be cool to have rods and kustoms, not just wildly modified european exotics, on the streets in the mideast.

    Have the IP traced... if it really came from Bahrain, you just might have the real deal on your hands? If it came from anywhere else, I'd be waiting for the part where they ask YOU to send THEM money. LOL

    I partied there in the Navy. It was the only place in the middle east where we were allowed to freely roam. Saudi Arabia, etc. were off limits besides a tent to drink beer right at the port. This was 1996. I wouldn't work there for all the money in the world, I'm too attached to my head.

    I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say its not a scam bro. Reply back and see where it goes.

    It really doesn't have any cl***ic 'tells' of a scam. Most scams are from Nigeria or a variation of that, not Bahrain, and they don't usually list a phone number or have a mac.com email addy. I think its legit. Good luck!

    If I were in a position to do it, I'd go in a second. Sounds like some adventure.

    I think its pretty cool that he says it is an "expanding island", how far can it go? Might be fun to see that!

  10. If they start asking for processing fees, do***ent fees and whatnot from you then you have a likely scam. Proceed with due caution.

    Yeah Bahrain is usually not one fo the "scamming prone" countries... I'd check into it, it could be an honest fella looking to cut a deal - it happens.

    If money needs to change hands, dodge and dive! Sounds like he might be legit though, too bad all the other scammin'****s in the world gotta ruin it and make us su****ious of everyone anymore, ain't it?

  13. Think Muslim Arab Terrorist - it is all one word in my book anymore. I think they get all fired up on Allah and then you are dead meat, beheadings, road bombs, kidnappings,etc...I would not trust any country over there. Given a choice, would you rather be over there with a weapon or a wrench in your hand? Hmmmmm....:eek: Gary 4T950 Chevy Guy

  17. Right and then next thing you know is when you have boxes of parts being sent back and forth - something ends up in a box and then look out! :eek: Gary 4T950 Chevy Guy

  18. I'd toss it and forget about it.

    This gets me off on a tangent to rant and rave :mad: .

    Name me one good thing except oil that comes outa' the middle east?

    What do those folks do with all the money they make off oil? Buy weapons and live like kings? And folks think the USA is a cl*** based society??

    Bill Gates, from MicroSoft, has done more to improve the world than every rich Sultan, King and Prince combined in the middle east.

    Except algebra, what contibution have these folks made to the globe?

    I just don't see too many HAMBers (or maybe the Arabs), surviving the culture shock. We have NO idea what it is like to live in an Islamic culture.

    Hey CHOPSHOP, still watching this one. Curious to see what pans out.

    Had a teacher who taught in Bahrain for something like six years. Part of her stay was during the gulf war. She said the smoke from all of the burning oil wells was so thick it covered up the sun for weeks/months. Now she has all these chemical sensitivies she never had before. Doesn't regret her stay. The people were really great to her, and she was able to learn a lot about the culture and politics of the region. Although better than a lot of the countries in the region, people don't have the freedoms of speech they would in a western democracy.

    Said students there were protesting Saddam Hussein well before Gulf War because of the awful crimes he ws committing against his people. Students protesting would go missing for days then come back with mysterious bruises. The crazy part is that the Bahrain government hated Saddam, and was actually a key regional player in the Gulf War. Still is. (U.S. military, last time I checked, still has key bases there.) It's just there was and probably still is a taboo about critizing other governments in the region.

    So in summary, a position like this would probably be a great opportunity for the right kind of person. Would have to adapt to and learn from another culture, and all. Definitely are some risks to safety maybe not posed here in the states...But hey, I almost got robbed at my shop here in Vegas, yesterday. Teacher said that even whe she looked outwardly western, she felt much safer there than over in the states.

    All I'm saying is that for a person who wants to make a little money and learn about a part of the world many people in the states seem to have major misconceptions about, the position might be worth considering.

    I recently quit another car forum because of closed minded bigoted statments made in a very heated thread about muslims. Lets not let this one end up the same way.

    That said, I think you should follow up. It might be a scam, it might not. If it's a scam, you'll have informed us of it so we can watch oput for similar scams. If it turns out to be legit, it would be a great oportunity for someone. Heck, I'm even at a point in life where I could drop everything and move like that.

    Sometimes it's helpful to make some distinctions. Fanaticism is not restricted to any one culture. Those who hide behind religion, and then procede to harm other people are indeed misguided. To appreciate the traditions of the middle east, the Rumi, poetry translations by Colman Barks and the Hafez translations by Ladinsky will astonish anyone who has never before seen this outpouring of spirit.
    Chop shop's scam letter may be an opening...as Antonio Machado writes, marvelous error!

    ChopShop,

    :confused: Where in hell would you find a date over there? There not going to let an infidel date their daughters. You could lose your head over that one. And for sure they won't share their forty virgins with you. All fun aside follow up on it just for the fun of it, just be careful, it might turn out to be something!

    Good Luck - Be cool

    So I did follow up. Asked the guy exactly what he was looking for-having work done- employees etc etc ... He said he wanted me to close my shop and have me and my employees move there to work for him.:eek:
    A true job offer? Maybe - but cant imagine moving the wife and kid there too- Dana is way to Western to survive a Middle Eastern country !
    Maybe someone else is intersted in changing their lives for a while- not me - Im staying in the good old USA
    .
    I guess if anyone is interested they can PM me for his email and let him know I forwarded it on...

    Are you allowed 1 automatic weapon per household like in Irac? You could order the "Special" Matco Ratfink tool box with the optional AK 47 holster for your work stall.
