As a real novice, I can't compare TCP Global to past experience. But I did my first full paint job with it a little over a year ago, and it went great. I used their restoration Shop line in Wimbledon White on my '39 Chev coupe, and it laid down great and covered well. One gallon gave me 5 coats with a half cup leftover.

I didn't wet sand, or buff the paint out. Just didn't care to get it that nice for a hotrod.

i painted my chevy this spring with TCPs current version of hot rod flatz. i heard the name was sold and that the product is better than the predecessor? i did the body in flat metallic, and the top in the same color but gloss acrylic urethane single stage metallic. not the easiest or smartest choices, but i have my reasons. one being: this is a "short" term paint job that i will likely redo in a few years. flat single stage metallic will age terribly, solid colors not much better. for a permanent paint job, i highly suggest flattened clear. that said, the flat sprayed decent, flowed out nicely. no complaints from this amateur.

  3. I used some TCP Global hardner in some old Nason Acrylic enamel to paint my sidecar this spring. Other than my complete lack of ability, it worked great and shines nicely.

I've been looking at using TCP Global epoxy, their 2K build primer, and the fire mist purple kit. I really want to pull the trigger but it seems so back and forth on whether it is a good product or not.

Back and forth? I haven't seen much, if any negative from people who've used it. Some derogatory comments from those who said it can't be any good at the reasonable price; but I give no weight to people speculating.

The stuff I heard was that is difficult to spray and it zebras bad. Was also told that it takes a long time to dry and is think so it takes more coats than it should. But then others compliment it.

My nephew who grew up working in my shop and is a very good painter used it 2 years ago to paint his customized S10, married with 4 kids it was a budget choice. The paint is a 4 to 1 mix,4 parts paint 1 part activator, no reducer, He used the medium activator, mid-day at mid 60s temp. It kicked really fast and lay like ****. He called me and I told him he might have to strip it. But he ordered some more product with a slow activator; He flat sanded the truck and I had him only mix enough at a time to do one p*** and added 10% reducer. It laid down better, but the shine only held up a year and the upper surfaces went flat. This truck is garage kept and his baby since he was 18, he is now 36. This spring he wet sanded it down and laid 3 coats of Martin Senior clear on it and it shined up okay. But considering all the materials he went through and time and effort he could have done it in PPG's DBC and clear and would have had an award-winning paint job and a paint code formula in case of a fender bender. The other batch that he ordered from them to reshoot the first job was the same part number but was 3 shades darker than the first batch. And yes, I am an award-winning Custom painter with50 years and countless paint jobs under my belt. But I still can't believe that people put all that work, even at the hobby level to cut corners on the final finish. What any of those companies are selling is Fleet color factory packs. Glorified tractor enamel with a hot rod on the label. Sorry for the rant but I have just seen way too many cars that could be really nice only to turn out like **** and the owner crying in his beer wishing he hadn't cut corners. Larry

Well my experience was the opposite, and as a first time paint job for me I'd have thought if anyone could screw things up it would have been me. It laid down great, covered well, and dried fine. One gallon gave me 5 coats on my '39 Chev coupe, and no issues at all. Of course I'm an amateur so maybe a pro could find fault with it?

Interesting that there are those who use it get good results, and a long-lasting paint job, very few who didn't, and the rest just listened to other's complaints (and most paint problems are operator error) who have a problem with it.

Yes I have. I'm going to paint the firewall tomorrow. What works best for me with all the small contours is 2 light coats followed by a 3rd medium wet coat. I let each coat flash for 15 minutes. The metallic layed down evenly with very little blotching. I'm happy with it!

Laid down more high build primer last night.

No issues but one thick spot from when I stepped on the air hose, and rolled my bad ankle.

KIMG0027.JPG IMG_20220706_202015.jpg Ok you want a Horror story, I'll give you one, but the paint is actually innocent, it is operator error. So my failed, single stage Candy apple red pearl paint job(number one) faded, because I kept it under a canvas tarp for several winters(Number 2) It has 5 coats because my air compressor failed halfway through the second coat, necessitating a respray.(number3) It did not stick in a couple spots because I did not do much prep work, as I was treating it like a sealer coat, to prevent my car being in primer for 20 years(number 4) I had not sprayed in years (Number 5)
I recently color sanded and buffed it. It shined up very nice, and is a good solid 20 footer, and it is no fault of the paint, 12 years of abuse later. Top pic is fresh paint, bottom is 12 years neglect buffed out. It is very durable, this thing has been outdoors the whole time, and on the coast in Big Sur For 2 years of that.

Did the top of my old 58 in restoration Wimbledon white . The blue I can't think of the name but I mixed a bunch of the white with it... single stage acrylic.
the trailer got Tcp cream white and restoration house firemist copper and rose gold mixed 50-50. Single stage acrylic. The metallic is uneven but that could have been me.

Tcp and restoration . They are fine. I don't think are a step up from whatever your local place sells but they come mixed and dropped off and at a slightly lower than Omni price... It was hard to resist

These are ppg paints. I know. Not because I'm smart but because the bottom of the cans all said Pittsburgh plate gl*** company at the label fold. I'm old... not old enough to know that's what ppg was called for years. Google revealed that to me.
It's been 3 years in Arizona. She hasn't faded. I've painted some stuff over the years... I always used deltron (spelling) that was a ppg brand that I could order cheap at work. I couldn't detect any difference. For the price it can't be beat.

Note: I used my dad's iwata syphon feed gun. It's not top of the line but the difference in that and my northern tool 70 dollar trigger is noticable

I clear coated the 58 like a year after I painted it with the Tcp global clear. I don't know how that held up because I sold her. But she shined enough to get attention. Shasta has no clear coat
