Elder care is tough on everyone.... it can be frustrating, back-breaking, and maddening at times. BUT.... you are helping him to have a better life (whatever he may have left), and that is an honorable, admirable act of kindness that will be repaid to you at some point in your life. I applaud and admire you for the assistance you are giving. The car can wait......
At one stage I was going to procrastinate on a semi-professional basis, but somehow it never happened. My dad isn't quite there yet, but that's pretty much my life now. Either my sister or I have to be there every day from breakfast to dinnertime. I've been putting together a front bumper for his OT '75 Mercedes (he bent the original in a "senior moment") but even that is happening by fits and starts due to other issues.
I agree with what you're saying, but any 1961 4-speed will be way more efficient than any 1961 automatic. The efficiency of automatics only began to improve with the lock-up converter. Latterly, with the new solenoid-shifted computerized automatics, the argument has been that a robot is better at deciding when and how to shift, and that it shouldn't be entrusted to a human. That's anathema to me. Delenda est that shit.
Yes, my name is Steve… I’m actually trying to get the flathead finished for my project by August. Been at it the last month since not touching it in over a year. Just setting a date is a major step in the right direction. Trying to focus on getting things finished that I started. Still very difficult.
I love thinking about parts, researching parts, hunting for parts, buying parts, and mocking them up on the bench, but actually putting them on the car takes me forever. I seem to be most productive the night before some show or event I want to take my truck to. I vacuumed down my A/C to do the finale charge and only had to run one wire from the control panel to the compressor and that took me 6 months and a 90+ degree day the first day of Goodguys to get it done. At least I knew it held a vacuum and didn't have any leaks.
Rowing gears is fun !!! I always wanted to engage this into a shift knob and watch peoples head spin !!
I do not procrastinate, too anxious to get things accomplished, my painter however..... 9 months on a 3 week promise to paint the car, still waiting. This morning I will visit and demand.
I have a friend who's last name is Nelson. All of his old car buddies call him "ProcrastiNelson". That's all I have to say about that.
Happy to see Granny Tranny gone. This year I'm having a lot more procrastination probs then ever before,an don't like it. I need a kick in the ass. To get working,part of brain tells me,just do it,and body don't hear it.
Just came across this meme and it cracked me up. Back in the late 80's I was at the swap meet talking to a seller. I don't remember his face or what he was selling. All I do recall pertains to the last three words to the meme below. What ever it was I mentioned that I would get around to was all the seller's needed to punk me. Next thing I know he hands me a wooden dowel 3/4" dia by 3" long and said here's your "Round To It". Those words were even written on it! He then told me to keep it as a reminder that there are things that needed to be finished.
I drove an old Diamond T with this transmission but the map was missing. Not bad on flat ground but when you came to a hill you really had to think fast.
I joined a procrastination support group a while back for this very reason. I was really hoping it would help, but the first meeting keeps getting rescheduled.
I have been in that situation with my father in law before he passed , up close and personal more than I ever thought it would be. Not fun or dignified for the recipient as well but you both make it through. Kudos for you taking the extra step.
I have been working 60-70 hours a week for the last 6 years but have been buying parts for a 29 sedan. Need to get started, again.

I've got a friend who has a bit of a drinking problem and he shared a comment that he heard in AA. it goes - How is procrastination like masturbation? You're only f***ing yourself.
Just when you think that car can't get any cooler. My first car was a 61 2 door ht. 250 bucks, rocker arm slipped off the valve. Took it home, my dad ground the stem flat with a drill and a grinding stone. Owned by the proverbial little old lady. Took out the PG, put in a 3 speed (I'm not as cool as Moriarty.) Stuck a solid Crane Fireball in it, a set of mags on it, and life was good.
No procrastination here.............I just work very slowly because I'm a perfectionist. Nice car, glad you are enjoying the 4 speed. Now you are driving the car instead of having it take you for a ride.
