Technical 55-57 chevy measurement needed

Anyone with a sbc in a 55-57 chevy, I'm trying to hide my AC compressor the best I can, car is in paint prison so I'm just mocking it up and tack welding for now

Need a measurement from this corner of the block to the upper control arm/ control arm bolt, thanks

 

So... I measured 3 ways: left to right
Corner of block to arm bolt end ( diagonal ) 5 1/4"
Level straight over to the bracket ( rod like piece that bolts on frame ) 5"
Level straight and square to top of shock stud 6"
Have fun.

 

What you are wanting to do does not make any sense; if you (or whoever owns the car after you) decides to install power steering the A/C pump will have to be moved to the p***enger side.

 

Not only that but the hoses are going to have to cross over the engine. They would be too easy to damage or melt from exhaust heat. The fittings also should not be pointing straight up because the oil could get stuck in the compressor damaging it.

 

Thanks Tom, g***er style build here Definitely no power steering, if someone after me changes things, that is what they're going to have to change along with a lot of things, AC hoses will be custom made and routed nicely along the bottom of the radiator support. Housing end is available with fittings to the rear.

 

how do you plan on hiding the vents?

 

Control arm? G***ers have straight axles! Plenty of room for A/C compressor.
Just kidding, I know not all g***ers have straight axles.

 

Don't forget that the control arm is going to move up and down. Can't you put it on the other side and mount it lower ? Would simplify hose routing to the condenser and the firewall. Down by the oil pan.

Going to use just the left/right vents black to match the dash, not completely hidden but not as obvious as the center vent, gotta have my 3 pack of stewart warner guages for a 70's style build haha

 

Looks like it most likely won't work on the placement of the compressor, I'll give it a shot once the engine is in... would have to notch the front xmember to get it any lower, ain't gettin that crazy over it haha

 

I agree, the front crossmember will be in the way.
