when it came to the dodge hemi, weiand made their 6x2 drag star manifold in two styles, a short style with no runners and a tall style with two inch runners between the log portion and the head. which is better on the street? does one favor a higher RPM range? why did they make both styles?
I have not seen or done any dyno testing on these, but in general: short runners favor higher RPM power, longer runners favor midrange to low rpm power. I'm planning a dyno test of the long runner Edelbrock X-3 8 carb intake vs. a short runner Arias 8 carb intake. (the Arias is very similar to the taller Drag Star. THe X-3 has 9"+ runners)
From a pure nostalgic sense..I would run the Weiand 4x2..... and build a Hemi to roll with that. 20 years ago.I had one and sold it to Tom Hanna(RIP) ..Oh heck.. I love all of them.
I agree with Jeff. The 4x2 just screams old school with that hemi. And yes they all are cool jewelry.
the tall style drag star is @continentaljohn , i believe i sold that to him around a hunnert years ago. the other two are currently in my possesion
^^^I have one of those..^^^I think I may sell it.. the early Edmunds 2 pot are rare..... Yes.. it will run very nice.. You can buy a newer repo 2x2 Offy...but the Edmunds are just way cooler. Great build dude.
My former '27 hiboy had a 354 Chrysler with 4 X 2 Strombergs. Ran 'snappy'! JE pistons, 10.5:1. Before boosting compression, it was like a soft cloud pushing me... But w/10.5:1 it felt like a quick jet blast. I forgot you had the '27 on '32 rails, Rick. So slick! Oh, run the 4 X 2, straight linkage. You'll LOVE the 'kick'...
my little hemi only displaces 250 cubes so i'm collecting stromberg 81's for it. i think i'll hold on to all three and swap them out over the winter to give it a new look each year
