I thought I had it all planned out with the brake pedal location on my 47 Ford. The plan was to make an extension to my pedal to clear the steering column and it was brought to my attention that this was a bad idea. This got me thinking if I get a smaller booster I can move it further down. My main concern doing this is will I run out of pedal travel when it gets that much closer to the toe board? I would think about bending the arm to the right it doesn't look like it has too far to go.

Does that pedal look too high off the floor to you?
Would I be ok putting an extension maybe an inch or two?

Because of the angle of your picture I can't see how high your pedal is.

I can see that but how far off the floor is the pedal mount.

Do you have seats that youll be using in the car ?

Helps a lot to determine where the pedal should be.

Sit in some other comfortable car for comparison. Then make your gas and brake arms so they're the same.

You can usually, pie cut, section, bend the existing arm. If youre not confident in a welded arm, having a mock up version with the right dimensions allows one to be made.

If you're up to making a new arm, the brake booster doesn't have to be where it is now, section the mounting area out of the firewall and move it outboard to give more engine clearance.
Just requires a brake arm that will put the pedal where you want it

    off the floor about 10"-12"

  9. I think I would do this, or some version of it. I looks like you have the room. And, it will also help if you have to do anything on that side of the engine, since it looks like its right over the valve cover. I would also like to get the M/C and lines away from the exhaust manifold more, which moving the whole assembly outward would do.

With the pedal ratio I can see and power brakes you might have a very touchy pedal. If it’s possible I’d move the MC unit on the other side of the column. Good luck.

I think normally a power brake pedal would be about 6"to 8" off the floor. The other advice your getting about mocking up your seating at the same time is good.

I'll give that a try thanks.
Also while I'm thinking about it how much room do I need behind the arm to get the full range? I don't know if this is opening another can of worms or not

Enough to be able to fully stroke the master cylinder, which will have a stroke of about an inch plus maybe an eighth. If the pedal ratio was say 6 to 1 you need approx 8".

A version of this idea would allow better location of the booster. You just need to watch the pedal ratio.

I'd look at moving the whole brake/booster farther from the engine....toward the fender. Away from the heat and away from the valve cover. I made a new mounting plate and welded it to the firewall on a 56 Chevy truck so I could use hanging pedals, and it looks like its going to work just fine.

probably going to have to move it all. I'm thinking that i need to re-think where i have the steering column too.
